First Race with the Rift

This thread will also be known as "I'm still alive, and am getting back into iRacing after not running anything since 6hrs of the Glen".

Hey all, I'm getting back into this iRacing thing and I've gotten myself a CV1 to jump in with. I just ran my first race with the oculus since having it for about a week now, in the MX-5 at Road America. This combo is a ton of fun, and since the race was at 00:30, it didnt split and the racing was great.

First things to note would be that my laptimes haven't really improved, and are if anything, worse. However, the added immersion, spacial awareness, field of view, and everything else makes this the coolest experience ever. I'd reccomend it to anyone here who might have doubts.

But anyways, I hope to be back practising with all you guys really soon, and will try and join in races between school and other things! :D:D:D

Cheers,
Chris

YAY!!!! Glad to hear from ya man! Hope all is well and good on your end of things. Cool to hear that you have entered the world of VR and are enjoying it. I am absolutely dying to try VR. Looking forward to seeing you on the track!

Thanks Jes. Hopefully retailers will start doing the right thing and offer demos for people. If you get the opportunity to try it anywhere, do it!

Congratulations on the VR! Let me know when you upgrade to the Vive and can walk around the car and wave to the crowd ;)

Still can't imagine what it's like to use a VR set, must be awesome as everybody keeps telling us :).

Don't give in if you're a bit slower with VR for a while, I've heard that happens to more people, just because they have to get used to it, and that might take a while.

Yeah, there's a bit of a learning curve to being in the different seating position, with the added FOV, but the driving itself just feels completely natural.

The only negative so far is that I keep knocking over my drinks when I put them next to me on my desk.. lol. It's all the headset's fault, of course

I have a solution for drinking in Oculus VR... always use a sealed bottle. I found that out the hard way when using my Oculus DK2 in Elite Dangerous. Coffee + Saitek flight stick = whoops.

The Vive has a camera on the front so you just hit a button and you can see what you are doing in reality with the HMD on.
