Do we have someone here with Bandwidth and a decent rig that can host an ArmA 3 event this Sunday 24th?

I have the rig but some of you ping in the 180's connecting to me and it will only get worse the more that join me thinks.

This is going to sound completely stupid but what affects ping when connecting to me, my upload or download, your distance from me or a combination? Me thinks it's upload and distance but I'm not 110% sure.

lol we barely played together the past 10 years or so and you have to commemorate the event with a TK straight out of the gate.

The sad part is that I somehow managed to fight my way though most of suburb where much of my squad was decimated only to have you spawn in and pop a cap in my @ss :lol:

I've cleared my tasks for this weekend so I'm able to host the event.
My bandwidth should be good enough (60/60). I believe it is the upload speed that matters for a server so it should be able to serve. My rig on the other hand...I can only hope it is up to the task (my impression is that it has been so far).
I'm ready to host an Arma3 event from 1800 CET.
If this sounds OK I'll write a roll call post in the Arma forum, announcing the event. Or should I post it here?

For me 1800 CET would be a little too early; i'd prefer from 1900 CET and on. And d00kie, it affects you upload.

I don't think the entire community is up to speed on the "Roll Call" thing so lets just stick with FT (Game) Community Gameday (Date) for example:

As a Supermod you can Sticky the thread as well and if we're to do this sort of thing regularly over more games with more hosts, we can create a usergroup to reflect Temporary Hosts and give them all similar privileges.

I'm in for Sunday regardless of timeframe.

Wapwap (and anyone else), you can join whenever it suits you. We're probably dead by the time you join and have to start a new mission anyway :lol:

What if we run a JIP Mission like Wasteland or something that has more of a TDM feel to it? That way anyone can join in at anytime and since it's split up into Blufor/Opfor/Independant, there is certainly a squad play sense dynamic to it.

It will also help the newbies get acclimated to the game dynamic and controls that much faster.

Is it purely PvP or is there AI targets around as well?
And where can I download the latest version?

It's both PVP and AI on side objectives which are more fun and dangerous than the PVP IMHO.

I don't know why but this Mission is far more fun for me in ArmA3 than it ever was in ArmA2?

I have the Mission dl'd and installed on my local machine as well so I'll give it a go tonight to see if there's additional settings to get more AI in.

I'd encourage you though to load it up and see if there are any settings in the Server Setup dialogue.

If not, I can likely open up the mission file and edit the values for AI spawn to fit our purposes.

It was a great event at the 24th! We could have been more people joining but as a first time I think it was reasonably good. Although we ran an alpha version there were no technical problems (at least not that I know of).

I think it would be realistic to set up an event like this once a month, don't you think?
With a set time and date people will have more time to prepare and adjust RL events to make a fragtard gaming day possible.
Any events more frequent than a monthly FTGD (FragTardGamingDay) will be a pure bonus!

I think so yes, maybe it's better to have a lot of people once a month than a few every week. Like you say, anything between that is a bonus eh
