GTA V: Be careful what you do in Single Player

This digital age where you "don't really own" what you pay for has got to end. These stipulations and shit are absolute garbage.

There needs to be actual laws passed to prevent this from continuing, whether they are ebooks that you can't apparently pass on when someone dies, or music bought from iTunes... it is incredibly terrible.

Was just reading the other week about how some major auto manufacturers wanted to make it illegal to modify your car. I think it was moreso in the sense of flashing the ECU, I don't think they meant any mods, but that is where we are heading...

I wasn't planning on playing the singleplayer and i'm not really sure if i'd play online anytime soon.
R* has so many options to satisfy their clients but yet they decide to take a shit at their plate.... it's Ubi all over again.

well i for one , am having a blast in online.
Heists are fun as hell , jobs are plenty and entertaining and just causing general mayhem with the crew is good fun too .
Haven't looked at the mods yet and don't feel i really need any (for now ;) ) .

I'm with D.O.A. I'm not really interested in modding the game at the moment.

HOWEVER a couple things bother me about this;

1.) How did Single Player modding become MORE of an issue then Multiplayer modding? You know, the thing that is actually ruining other peoples game experience? Okay, its a game and you don't want it ****** with, but MP should be the priority, THEN go after the SP hackers...

2.) 99% of the customers that have been waiting for GTA V PC for ovrt 1.5 years have waited that long TO MOD THE GAME! Look at the mods for GTA IV. There really isn't anything mindblowingly new about GTA V PC gameplay from it's Next-Gen predecessor (from what I understand), and R* can't possibly thing that all of its PC customers waited this long JUST to play their game with a mouse and keyboard...

Not surprised by any of this, and as I said, not too bothered by this either, just disappointed....

I'm pretty used to that feeling from video games by now...

Oh GTA Online is fun as hell when I've been on with the B2O crew. Never had so much of a laugh, and it is every time too. In fact, the more I think about it the more I want to do the next heist! Which heists have you done so far D.O.A.? I've done the first and second one (with you guys).

Well, this is all a storm in a glass of water.

This all boils down to people modding their singleplayer game, then entering online - with their game still being modded -. And then acting all surprised they get a ban because they -claim- they only use it for singleplay. Of course people get banned for entering online with a modded game, shouldn't it be that way?

Seriously, what should rockstar do? Track a million people in realtime in online to see if they actually use their 'singleplayer' trainers and stuff, or just do a simple check for modded files when they enter online. If you go play online, make sure to do it with an unmodded game, it's not that hard. No one got banned for modding singleplayer without entering online with those mods, so the whole; modding singleplayer will get you banned in multiplayer is not true, it's entering multiplayer with a modded game that will get you banned. If banned people claim it's only for SP, why do they enter online with the mods active then?

And btw, so far history has proven rockstar only hands out temporary bans, usually around 2 weeks, has been like that in previous gta's and also with gtaV on console, so that reddit post is full of it, and if you read the other 2 links properly, you can see they are talking about entering online with mods still active. Well, we've already seen the invisible mode, unlimited ammo and god mode cheaters in online in a few days after release, so as far as I'm concerned I wish there would be more that rockstar would do then hand out temp bans for entering online with a modded game...

Rockstars position about modding is, mod your game, lose support (like in any game), and enter online with a modded game, risk action being taken.
I don't see anything surprising here, or should rockstar trust people on their blue eyes that they won't use their mods when entering online with a modded game?

To quote something from the links in the OP:
Even if you don't activate any of the several GTA 5 mods while playing its multiplayer mode, it's possible that simply having one installed while accessing GTA Online counts. We'd recommend disabling mods completely before attempting to play GTA Online, at least until we have more information.
I'm sorry, but to me, that makes perfect sense when you enter online...

I agree Shilka. It's weird though, I have used a trainer to go on a rampage with Trevor and jump off the blimp with no parachute etc. etc. and I disable it, close it completely. Then the next day I'll jump into single player as I want to continue the story mode (which I don't use cheats on as it just spoils it) and for a little while I will still have infinite health etc. then all of a sudden I will get Wasted, even with a full health bar, then after I respawn at the hospital everything is back to normal. I wonder if that is what's happening to some people when they go online some files somewhere haven't been overwritten back to normal or something. I'm going to make sure everything seems back to normal before I enter online now, because I sure as shi* am not going to give up rampaging through Los Santos with a super-chimpanzee wielding a napalm minigun...

People that use trainers will eventually not be able to as it's just a matter of time before they get an infected trainer rendering their pc useless.
I've had tons of computers to fix, 4 out of 5 times it was either so called "free" software or cheats for games....known as trainers.
I couldn't care less really, you can do whatever you want in SP but don't go messing up someone else's online experience.

Fair point Quick, I did give it a scan before using and it's the most well known one. The guy is a cornerstone of the modding community from IV so it should be ok... Being a shark and eating swimmers at Vespucci beach never gets old btw... :icon_twisted:

mental! there are some crazy mods out there already. I can't wait to see what iCEnhancer brings. It made GTA IV look almost photorealistic at points. GTA 5 enhanced should be amazing.

So actually it's a mod, but due to technical limitations it has to be added to the gamecode through injection which makes it a trainer.... for now.

And yeah, i see your point and i fail to see why R* didn't implement a mode like that.

Well, there's an official response from Rockstar:

"We have always appreciated the creative efforts of the PC modding community and we still fondly remember the awesome zombie invasion mod and original GTA mapmod for GTAIV PC among many other classics. To be clear, the modding policy in our license has not changed and is the same as for GTAIV. Recent updates to GTAV PC had an unintended effect of making unplayable certain single player modifications. This was not intentional, no one has been banned for using single player modifications, and you should not worry about being banned or being relegated to the cheater pool just for using single player PC mods. Our primary focus is on protecting GTA Online against modifications that could give players an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or cause griefing. It also bears mentioning that because game mods are by definition unauthorized, they may be broken by technical updates, cause instability, or affect your game in other unforeseen ways."
And:

"Unfortunately even a tiny minority of people cheating can have a negative impact on a larger population. In addition, solving this problem requires a different approach on each platform. We have been regularly rolling out fixes for specific exploits and tools to enable us to combat cheating with each patch and we are going to continue to do so. While it’s unrealistic to say we can solve the problem of cheating forever and for everyone, we believe we are making significant progress on this issue and we will continue to work aggressively to stop these griefers in their tracks as best we can."
Source.

As an example why to still be careful with singleplayer mods; the car cannon mod posted above in the video, I saw someone use it in open online multiplayer yesterday morning... Probably an adapted version of the mod, but it shows how quickly stuff can be converted for online use... I hope Rockstar can keep up with keeping online clean, or we might find ourselves playing in closed friends/crew servers exclusively (not that that is necesarily less fun, hehehe)

Wait until you hear about this game called iRacing. I dread the day that any and all money put in that game goes down the shitter, even if I don't play it anymore at that point.
