BTW, Here's what rockstar had to say about all the launch troubles:

Rockstar said:
Thank you everyone for continuing to bear with us since yesterday’s initial roll out of Grand Theft Auto Online – we’re aware that a variety of technical difficulties have made it difficult to get access and that the experience has been a bit less than smooth for many of you who jumped in straight away, so here are a few updates as of this afternoon to keep you all apprised.
At the Rockstar Games Support site, there is a dedicated article listing out the most common technical issues being reported. Things are changing and developing frequently but here are some latest updates as of this afternoon:

  • For PlayStation 3 users, a PlayStation Network server issue was detected that was limiting the amount of possible concurrent users. This was preventing most players from accessing GTA Online altogether and as of this morning, that problem was resolved.
  • There is an issue that is preventing some players from getting through the first tutorial mission across both platforms. Many players have been able to get through this with repeated retries, and we are working on unblocking this for everyone as soon as possible.
  • This morning, we experienced some instability across the GTA Online services which is affecting even people who have progressed beyond the tutorial mission. We are identifying these issues now and are working to restore stability for users as soon as possible.
  • For the time being and until we have been able to get everybody access to GTA Online and things are running smoothly, we have disabled the option of purchasable GTA$ cash packs. Players can however keep on earning GTA$ by pulling off Jobs and other profitable gameplay activities rather than purchasing cash packs.
You can keep updated on these and other common issues by subscribing to the GTA Online Launch Status Rockstar Support article at http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200426246-GTA-Online-Launch-Status-Latest-Updates-. Subscribers will be sent an automatic notification as updates happen.

All of these initial technical issues will be ironed out as soon as we can. Please know that the entire team here at Rockstar and all of our relevant partners are and will continue to be working around the clock to get the experience to be as smooth as possible, as soon as possible.

In the meantime, for anyone experiencing technical problems, we encourage you to report them to our dedicated Support Team at Support.RockstarGames.com and at twitter.com/RockstarSupport. This is the best place to get direct technical help and we are constantly looking at the most commonly reported issues there to resolve.

For those of you who have been getting into and playing GTA Online, we also encourage you to please share your gameplay experience feedback with us at GTAOnline@rockstargames.com so that we may know what aspects you’re liking and disliking to help guide how the game will grow and evolve past this initial period.

Thanks again everyone for your patience and your support – we will continue to keep you updated.

Shilka was constantly trying to show me his knickers. He's roleplaying the female character well, he even got mad at me when I didn't notice his £2000 shoes

Big pool of blood. This is what happens when you feck up a gas station robbery eh Shilka?

The gas station and my choice of getaway vehicle. We were doomed from the start :p

Well, perhaps the gasstation robbery would have gone better if you hadn't gotten us a wanted status before we even started the robbery, and if you would have made sure the passenger side door was facing the gasstation...
Ok, it didn't really help that I accidentally shot the gasstation guy in the face, but at least I managed to get $65 from the cash register myself...
Allright, we borked it...

I actually saw you trying, getting messages you entered the server and then exited right away. Should get better as rockstar ads a couple more hundredthousand servers, looking forward to playing with you!
Had little problems today, seems like the situation is improving slowly but steadily. Perhaps this euro evening? Stay alert when close to little P, after playing one evening with him I was down $10.000 and he is now listed as my 'archenemy', lol. It's been a while since I had so much fun in an online game though, esp. on xbox.

Yeah man my throat was actually sore from laughing after last night  I came to pick you up one time Mondo but you disconnected again, I will say it's been fine today, played a couple of hours between the missions of life and no problems whatsoever! Whether that's the same this evening I can't say

GTA online is easily the most fun online experience I've had in a loooooong time when all your mates are in there. There's just so much opportunity for random things happening you couldn't have planned for, it's a proper laugh

Shilka

Hardcore
I've got a tip for you mondo, first, try connecting to a random game by using thhe GO button in the menu, or by using the 4th person in the character selection wheel. Then when you get a servers unavailable message you'll at least have a retry button (x on xbox) and you can retry without loading the SP back first. Then a retry is a matter of seconds and you shjould be in a server within a minute or so.

Then you'll be at least signed in at social club, and it will stay signed in when switching servers/instances, so try to connect from that server to your friends (or ask them to throw you an invite). It should greatly increase your chances to connect to friends/crew then trying to do so from SP, because you already will have a connection to social club.

Darn, that sucks JK, perhaps this will help:

Update: We're currently working on a title update for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to address commonly reported issues with GTA Online. We hope to have it out for download as soon as tomorrow.
I hope that will fix the issues, as once you're in, the MP is heaps of fun!

Looking forward to the update, hopefully that will fix things for those still struggling to connect :)

LMAO, that last shot is epic.

I guess rockstar paid big bucks to get an update out so fast on console, usually the approval process takes 2 weeks for title updates. I guess they have money to spare though...

Yesterday I got impressed again by all the little details that are put in the game that make it so immersive.
First of all you really notice the low driving and flying skill you start off with, the handling of the cars is hard to get a hold of, especially in the not so high end cars.
Then the turbulence you experience when flying over mountain ridges and along tall buildings, that's pretty cool and better then what I experienced in flight sims, if there's turbulence at all ion those games.

Have you also noticed that when you lose a tire on a car, and continue driving on the rims for a while that the rim will actually wear down untill you're only driving on the spokes of the wheel, how cool is that.

Another thing I noticed yesterday, which I hadn't even noticed before in 80 hours of gameplay, is that the center dividers on the highways have actual functional crash absorbers on the starts and ends of the divider, if you drive into them they will actually fold in and compact to absorb the power of the impact. It's the slightly wider parts with the yellow/black striped end stop on them, try it, it's pretty cool they went so far to add that level of attention to detail!

That was great fun yesterday P, the driving towards the mission areas, and you two trying to hitch a ride on top of the car were downright hilarious. And two of you dying before the mission even started because you got hit by trains, lmao. You should get those buddies of yours here on fragtard, because they fit right in :D

Found these today - answers a lot of questions I had...

  • Dying costs 5% of your bank (maxing at 5k) so try to avoid getting in fights with random players.
  • Passive mode is not invincibility. You're still vulnerable to being shot from a car and being run over.
  • When robbing a store, kill the store keeper and take the money out of the register for more.
  • You can sell cars to any auto-shop once every in-game day (around 48 minutes) which usually goes for 4-9k.
  • Luxery Sedans and high end SUVs are the highest paying car when selling cars to the auto-shop.
  • You can withdraw/deposit cash safely from your phone.
  • All your progress online before the brown sync icon appears will be lost on turning off your console, selecting Leave GTA Online will save your progress.
  • The Radio Mirror Park radio station is the best station.
  • You can also shut down your console if you lost a great sum of money and haven't synced yet to restore your previous save.
  • When you find a good farming mission, repeat as much as possible.
Most good farming missions you cannot choose to join and usually end up
    joining by random.
  • You run faster with no weapons out I think?
  • Gerald's missions seem to pay the highest. Would like to know if anyone has found any higher paying missions.
  • I found a crowbar on the death-match mission on the boat and got to keep it afterwards. It's awesome.
  • If you're not finding good matches on Quick Job try swapping sessions by pressing Find New Session.
  • Buying Armor before a session is usually worth it. It's cheaper then the 2k death penalty.
  • Blue moving objective points that aren't auto GPS tracked will appear underQuick GPS.
  • If a player in your passenger sets a GPS route on the map, it will also appear on your map.
  • Simeon's missions are time consuming and not worth the payout compared to Gerald's missions.
  • Use Find New Session to quickly warp back to your garage/apartment.
  • If you get a phone call from an AI, your characters lips will move, it's pretty funny.
  • When buying an apartment/garage, you will sell your already owned
property and get about half the value back to contribute to the
    purchase.
  • Only the host needs to be the required level to start a mission. Anyone can play with anyone regardless of level requirements.
  • Press RT to vote for replay mission after everyone has liked even if the option is not shown.
  • Mashing jump up hills is faster then running.
  • Sports/Super cars must be bought through the ultimate motors website to keep in your garage, sell or modify.
  • Don't quit golf/tennis/shooting range etc. because you are losing.
You still get rp (experience) for losing and for being a good sport you
will get monetary rewards. Plus you still get points towards your
    skills.
Races can be done solo. They can give 500-1000 rp each time alone which
can be a great experience booster. Keep in mind though that it costs 100
    each time.
  • Players drop 100 every time they die, in addition to any funds they are carrying.
  • You have to start a solo/private game from the pause menu.
  • Blowing up other players owned vehicles deems you a bad sport, so be careful on your drive-by stick-bomb sprees.
  • On the other hand, shooting the all the tires out of a players personal vehicle is totally okay.
  • Heritage can influence character height in Character Creation.
  • How you set your time spent in character creation can affect how you
look, though apparently some of these can be removed when you get an
    apartment.
  • Stores can be re-robbed immediately if you swap sessions.
  • Driving a car into an auto-shop gets rid of your wanted level.
  • Cops will sometimes chase you if the car you are driving is stolen.
  • All clothing stores have the same options for different items.
  • To unlock car upgrades you need to run races with that class of car and level up.
  • Holding back allows you to split up money that you get from robberies.
  • Wear a mask when you rob a place and remove it once you exit to drop your wanted level by 1 star.

lmao yeah I can't remember the last time I laughed so much playing a game

You're right about the details, it's incredible really, and yeah getting a title update out this quickly is unheard of. Microsoft are really bending over backwards for Rockstar, but then you don't put your best racehorse pulling a cart do you I suppose.

The snap I took of us all in the tunnel didn't save, we will have to re-create it some time!

Here's a couple vids which are interesting too. Some facts also show how well the game mechanics work, like it being possible to ignite a gasoline trail with the backfire from your car exhaust...

 Some of these are brilliant! Shooting the sticky bombs, I had no idea you could detach cable cars too :icon_eek: Helicopters at the wind farm looks like it could be endless fun too haha I had Franklin knock me out as Michael at the airport, I just thought I'd follow him around to see what he does, and yep, he told me to f*** off, and then after a while turned around and done me in one punch just like the video :icon_redface:

also i nearly spat my coffee out @ "Myth: Chop will fetch grenades" aaahahahaha

I can see me playing GTA for a long time to come, there's so much to this game it's astonishing really

I've just had a few ideas for later, I wonder how many tow trucks we could get towing each other in a line?

Maybe a tow truck tug of war over a canyon or river etc.

Getting all of us to jump out at height and parachute onto the Atomic Blimp, then parachute off again onto the top of the rollercoaster/ferris wheel...

Land a helicopter on top of a jumbo jet as it's taking off...

I actually managed to land a helicopter on a moving train in SP, but when I got off the heli to make a photo I fell off the train, lol

btw, one thing I really enjoy in freeroam is just cruising around as long as I can without damaging/destroying my car. Doing it with a bunch of people makes it like a game of follow the leader. It sounds boring, but once you try it it's actually pretty ffin hard, and good fun, especially when you do stuff like driving tractor-trailers offroad etc. (or for example drive up chilliad, then do a game of who can get down to village X the fasted over the mountainside) In GTA SA MPmod and in GTA IV I had a whole bunch of 'followers' who did nothing but just follow me around all evening and enjoying it too. Not sure if it's somthing for you P though, you'd probably rear-end me off the first mountainside we'd drive along, but still, something I enjoy very much.

Next to that, just driving a bunch should get your driving skill up quicker then when doing missions and such, next to that you even get bonusses for driving for a prolongued time without shooting, without alerting police etc, and you even get xp bonusses for cruising around with a passenger. Also got my first 'good player' bonus today, some money and xp. Anyway, I love driving in this game!
