Guild Wars 2 home server choice - (US) Fort Aspenwood / (DE) Kodash

Very interesting news from ArenaNet regarding home servers:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-world-of-choice-the-regions-of-guild-wars-2/

The remaining somewhat-semi-active German part of the Wolf Guard will gather at the "German" server Kodash [DE] in Guild Wars 2. We will not found a direct successor guild to the Wolf Guard because except hexe and me most don't know the origin of the "wolf spirit" and because hexe, me and the other officers just don't have the necessary spare time to lead and run a guild. On the other hand we do have an invitation from the Shadow Song [Song] guild from our Guild Wars 1 alliance to join their successor guild in Guild Wars 2. Actually that is the main reason to have choosen Kodash [DE] despite hexe and me are not looking forward to play on a "German" server. But that is where the friends will be and friends are currently more important than languages.

I assume the US-based part and even the EU-based part of the Wolf Guard will join the Fragtard guild. Personally I intend to join that one with a secondary character, too, because you can always see all guild roosters of all guilds you have at least one character in.

Please be aware that some parts of guilds are "global" (name, logo, rooster, chat) but other parts are "divided into home servers" (influence gathering, influence spending, guild upgrades). Actually that's pretty idiotic in my opinion because you have to buy the guild upgrades separately on every home server. I really, really, really suggest that everybody who intends to join the Fragtard guild to choose the same home server because this will make the coop gaming and the influence gathering and the guild upgrading a lot easier.

My display name is TeeTeeHaa.3509 which can be used to put me on your friend list in Guild Wars 2.

Re: Guild Wars 2 home server choice

Well I'll definitely be on the Fragtard Guild and do my best to represent but time will also be a bit of a factor for me.

I have 2 websites I own that require massive amounts of work to get going as well as 2 Customer Sites that require close to 100 combined hours of attention; possibly more.

I'll likely commit heavily to GW2 in the beginning but taper off my involvement after the first month or so. I'll likely be able to commit to between 5 - 10 hours/week maximum ingame time after the first 30 days.

Since I don't know much about this game, I wonder if there are things I'm missing such as Fragtard Guild Leaders and such?

Is there a FAQ on what we need to consider when creating or representing our own Guild?

K.I.S.S.

Going to keep it simple stupid and have fun with it. I already said I would take the hit and role the leader part, but ALL officers which will be a majority of the members will have most if not all the same rights in the guild as I will. At least the ability to add members will be granted to all officers.

Outside of that, I think a free for all, nothing really hardcore scripted. There is talk about making a leet "wolf pack" sort of team that will venture forth and conquest at will. Outside of that, spend 5 minutes or 500 minutes a week, all it good.

Well, what server are we choosing? It would cool if we all chose the same one. Saturday is is coming:)

Re: Guild Wars 2 home server choice

It should be on the East Coast Somewhere preferably New York/New Jersey area. The farthest West we can go is Chicago and still retain somewhat reasonable pings for our Euro-pee-on Contingent.

Also I was wondering, can we have a Fragtard East (Euro-pee-on) and a Fragtard West (North Uuum-ericon) Guild?

US - Fort Aspenwood (FragTard)
DE - Kodash (T.T.H. / hexe / who else?)

Unless someone has a better idea.

If I had thought about it, I would have rolled a character on a EU server to check the lag.... Doh.

It's an MMO D00k, not a privately hosted FPS. :p I read that guesting won't make it in at launch, but it will. I'll add you and we'll all eventually get together again, I'm sure.

I thought we could quest together no matter what server or region using the guest system. Home server was for Guild progression and pvp.

AFAIK there is no "US-East" or "US-West" but simply "US" as they only use one datacenter in the US and one in the EU.

"Guesting" is not available as long as home server changes are free of charge.

Regarding "who else on Kodash": "pijou" (I think he's the only still active German who even registered at wolfgaming back then), "give it a name"="Chantalle Bordunet", "Giftpfeil", "Miyuki Minase", "Waise Hailey"="resistance", "William T Kollderup" - I don't think you know the others.

T.T.H., can we get alts into the guild you are joining on Kodash, or should we make an alt guild on there?
One day maybe we can have a world wide server that there is no lag involved. Now that would be cool.

I assume the guild we'll join on Kodash will be purely German and I don't expect their current members to be happy about the idea to talk English in chat due to non-Germans in their guild. I'm a bit ashamed for the "non international spirit" of my guild choice but they had been the people hexe and me played with in GW1 the last years. In addition we'll be "guests" there and as former guild leader I'll be very careful not to demand how things be done in there (actually I'll probably hate the fact that I won't be able to make guild announcements).

I see absolutely no need to for an "alt guild" on Kodash. Because guilds are global as soon you found the Fragtard guild it will exist on Kodash, too, and hexe and me we'll make secondary characters pretty soon and join the Fragtard guild. The only difference is that we will not have access to your "influence pool" and your guild upgrades but would have to collect those for ourselves - which is a pretty useless task with only two people. As I said elsewhere the "influence pools" and the guild upgrades are separated into the different servers while the guilds itself are truly global.

There will be one world wide server with no lag only in case somebody makes electrons travel faster than the light. But if that happens there will be waaaaaaaay more exciting things to do than to play computer games...

The good news is that the guild rights management in Guild Wars 2 is really flexible: you can create new ranks and assign them all the rights individually. I suggest to make a new "regular Fragtard member" rank and give it the rights you want. Afterwards you give that rank to all the Fragtards.

This is how it looked like in one of the beta weekends:

No worries my friend. You will always have a home with us if the German guild doesn't pan out. We will make alts or "guest" our main accounts and play with you lot often enough. Hey you can get Beth to work on her German when we come on your server! :icon_cheesygrin:
