I think I've located all my disks so I hope to start installing all this stuff this week. I also finally got my Track IR 5 and Pro-Clip setup so I'm dying to see how it plays in this game.

I gotta say though, I know I'm going to have to re-learn how to play ArmA but in Black Shark 2 having 6dof is sweet; hopefully it's the same in IL2.

I actually read through the forum posts and some of the bug topics as well with 4.11 and it certainly sounds great.

Pretty painful installation so far, my God

I'm trying to install Ace Expansion Pack and it won't work because it says it can't find IL 2 FB which is installed. Of course since I've last had this game installed I had it in C:\Program Files and now it's in C:\Program Files (x86) which I'm guessing Ace doesn't like?

Do I need to install everything in C:\Program Files or is there a way to make Ace Expansion Pack actually find IL 2 FB in another location?

Thanks.

I never install my games in c:\program files\. I install everything on a separate disk. You should be able to install the entire IL-2 package wherever you want.
I'm not sure, but maybe it has some problems with spaces in the directoryname?

I really don't know because the option for installing to a custom location never comes up. Be that as it may, IL 2 FB actually defaulted to the (x86) Folder (as most games do) so it's odd that AEP can't find the install.

I may have to actually change the .exe and assign it a location to get it to work. It looks like some internet research is in order.

You may also freely moce the directory where IL-2 is installed to somewhere else - it's not dependent on registry as far as I know. Try copy it to somewhere and then try installing AEP to that new directory.

What is mocing, I've never moced before?

Now I have two problems:
  1. I can't get AEP to find my IL2FB install
  2. I don't know what a moce is?

I didn't try the move yet, I'm still at work.

I probably won't try the move either though to be perfectly honest.

There is just so much time invested once you install and configure everything with this game, UBI.com, patches and God knows what else; I don't want it to CTD, bluescreen or what have you because there's a missing registry value somewhere that would be there if I just used the installer.

I'll likely uninstall the (x86) IL 2 FB and go for a clean install in C:\Program Files.

Well I've tried this a number of times and AEP will not find FB. I've even tried installing to Program Files instead of Program Files (x86) and the stupid bl00dy program puts a readme and some other file in Program Files and everything else in (x86); nonsense.

I tried moving the folder over to Program Files and cannot launch the game no matter what, it says the install is broken.

I've spend 2 hours on this now and I'm minutes away from just throwing the disks out at this point and waiting for COD to be fixed.

There also seems to be precious little information online on how to fix it. I did find one source that suggested not to use Program Files at all, can anyone confirm this?

BTW, I'm using Windows 7 64 Bit.

I suggest you just make a directory called C:\IL-2\ and install everything there. W7 have some issues regarding UAC and special directories like the Program Files duo. It also automatically puts any non-64 bit software in the (x86) directory.
Abandon those two and make your own directory, preferably not on C:.
