IL2 revisited, Patch 4.11 makes it worthwile?

With UP3 you can select the mods you want in the launcher (or none at all!). Handily it also has named servers on there like warbirds so you can fit in with there mods.

That's really good news mondo! :)
Hopefully starting the right mods in UP for some servers should be a lot less painful now.

Everyone's free to use UP when we start up, no problem at all since, as you say, you can start it without mods and then it will be compatible with vanilla.
I just want everyone to have a known 'common ground' before we go further and activate mods.

That was always my problem with mods. But the IL2 community seems to have worked together on this one and unified the whole project. There is even an updater for it! The only downside is its a massive download.

I'll be digging out my DVD's this weekend and hopefully get everything installed, at least core anyway.

Anyone have links to important patches and mods that I would need to bring the game up to date?

So do I need to run each patch or is there a cumulative patch that does all?

Also, is anyone here running the Beta patch; essentially, what patch version should I run?

I think you need to get all of them. I'd find the links and read the readme. A few of them are cumulative.

I think I still have the patches we need on the FTP server (or some other server I have). I'll see what I can dig up when I'm back online and got my 'puters running again.

Beware:
UP 3 is not compatible with patch 4.11. When installing you must stop when reaching 4.10 and then make a copy of the directory. Then install UP into the copy and 4.11 to the original. By doing this we can have both UP3/4.10 and a clean 4.11.

Thanks for the warning HaJa!
BTW, do you have all the patches necessary to update IL-2 1946 up to 4.11? Just nice to know for future references ;)

I'll be backing up my install on another drive once I reach 4.10 just in case. I had a backup install previously as well and it certainly helps when you screw something up.

Yup, I did the same thing with my 4.09 install too.And I sure screw up a lot :D
IL-2 is very nice in that regard, as it doesn't mind if you have multiple installations of it on your disk.

Great! I'll check our FTP server and if it misses a few files it would be awesome if you could upload any missing files so everyone have access to the full set :)
Well, it depends on the remaining free disk space on said server too. I'm planning to upgrade it but not quite yet.

Yes, all my servers are down at the moment until I'm up and running again in my new house. At the moment I'm missing a 24port GB-switch to serve all the IP-points in the house and my house-hub is only a set of flailing wires :)
Hopefully I'm ready next week as I will use this week to get my computers set up and ready again (though without connection to the Internets)

Thanks HaJa!
I will try to find my IL2-1946 DVD (it's somewhere in one of the boxes) and install everything this week.
I won't be ready til Thursday though, I still have some house-building to do so the installation will take some time...
Next week I hope we can have our first IL-2 flightnight again :)
