Infinity: Battlescape

Wondering if anyone's heard of the Infinity game? Their upcoming first release, a sort of preview game (somewhat akin to Elite's Update phases) is Infinity: Battlescape. You'll see parallels between it and Elite, and other games like No Man's Sky, etc.

Great video:

Thanks for sharing Daunt, this looks pretty cool with the planets and all.
I liked the "asteroid base" that's in the beginning of the footage, it really adds something to it, not to mention the combat over the planets surface.

This is definitly going to end up in my "keep an eye on" list.

Infinity: Battlescape actually looks pretty amazing so far.

The one thing I didn't like though was how quickly the ships spin on a dime, it just appears a bit unrealistic. Of course since it's Kickstarter I'm sure a lot will change, that was the only thing I noticed.

The environments look pretty good and I loved the Asteroid Field, that looked pretty amazing.

I'm probably going to pass on it though just as I intend to pass on Star Citizen (if it ever comes out).

At this point in time I've just got too much time invested in Elite: Dangerous to try anything else. Between E:D and iRacing the gaming hours required to advance in both far outweigh the time weekly I have allotted to game.

No problem Shilka. I wrote a blog not too long ago about another similar game (Limit Theory) that looked just as stunning.

I completely understand Duke. Elite is a great game and has many great things on the horizon (see what I did there?). And as for Star Citizen, I don't like its cash grab mentality that seems to focus on taking money and making promises, but delivering not nearly enough. Then slowly rolling out limited gameplay features.

As for the strange maneuvering, I wonder if it uses similar to newtonian physics? Technically a spaceship shouldn't behave like a fighter in atmosphere. But it makes for odd gameplay for us.

Infinity, before I heard of Elite, was a game I'd watched for at least a year (they were bought out and shared only awesome preview videos) through development. The concept sounded amazing, of endless procedural worlds and such (again, elite not really being on my radar at the time.

god damn it. I was in a rush to get back to Fallout. Sorry quickie. :icon_redface:

That's why I thought I heard darth vader breathing. If that could be your signature that played continuously...

I was following them when they where talking about Infinity: Quest for Earth....was supposed to be an Elite like universe but they gave up with that years ago. Battlescape is mostly combat aint it?

They didn't give it up. This is the first step towards that. Battlescape is about showing what it can do on a smaller scale (1-2 solar systems) before it is scaled up for a large MMORPG setting very similar to Elite. Exactly like Elite but in the opposite order (large universe made, then going back and filling in small details like landing on planets, etc)

I remember being very impressed with this video 5 years or so ago. Been wanting an updated version for elite for 20 years so I watched every project I could find.

just looked into it myself...apparently you can but no freeroaming.

Planetary landing is hugely important to me. Without it the game is just another "Space sim" like the xseries...or Elite Dangerous 1.x.

I always wanted to roam the universe ..entire universe not just the Space part :D
