iRacing: Aston Martin GT1 possible for Season 3!

Being a version behind may not be a bad idea, specially with this many users as the older versions are usually tried and tested, and have all the kinks sorted out. I would rather see more content, better physics etc than eyecandy.

5 car limit might only be arbitrary for all we know. I don't see why we can't have more types in session, so that shouldn't be hard to expand. RUF is also a fictional car, so dropping it might even happen. This is all just guess work at this time.

Considering it takes quite a while to upgrade, it's not like we'd be on DX12 the day it came out. It's likely we'd not see DX12 at least for half a year after it released. Just the fact that they're upgrading to a version that we know is going to be obsolete by the end of this year is sad.

DX12 offers a ton of optimization features that would really pay dividends in a racing game that you need to squeeze a lot of frames out of.

This is a really awesome, detailed video of the step by step process of what they go through to get a car from the track onto the sim. It is crazy how accurate it gets.

Not sure if you guys have found this one yet, it's apparently floating around the iRacing forums somewhere. Very useful.

The full resolution template (2048x2048) is in the .zip.

That's not very useful for painting, it's just a paint someone made with the wireframe enabled. The PSD template is up on iRacing for it, "Download Car Template" on the car paint page.

Why is it not useful? With the default template you get the paintable layers in one colour. With this template it is much easier to figure out which component correponds to which panel on the car.

I've just added this layer on top of the default layers to act as a guide, and I just disable it to see how the final paint looks in the simulation.

Thanks for the DL, Noël. Especially with the 50,000,000,000 tiny pieces at the front of this car... eww.. Probably not even going to attempt a paint for this but with this layer at least it would be possible.. I just can't get over how large and ugly the number plate is though... :(

Just download the layered paint from iRacing. You can get all these files from the members area.

Haha, yes, but out of those 50 billion pieces, 49 billion of them seem to be the wheel arch segments. Then there are still many, many of which I have no idea what they are. For the fun of it, I painted one of the little segments with everything else black to see what part it was. After 10 minutes of searching I discovered it was inside of the small hole next to the rear window (would that be the compressed air opening?)

Too bad the side mirrors can't be painted. It would also be really cool if we could adjust the colour of the lights in the right mirror for identification in the dark.

Did your paint contain the one I posted Duke? I downloaded the template from the paint page but it's not among those layers.

Nah I don't really use anything other than the layered paint file personally. If you turn on the layers for the iRacing default schemes it becomes pretty obvious what belongs where.

Personal preference, but I have never found this to be the case with non-stock cars.

FYI, we were talking about it, they're two seperate cars the DB9 (GT1) and the Vantage (GT3) and thus will not be included together. Doesn't make a lot of sense considering what they've done in the past (RUF, etc) but yeah.

Either way I'll still buy both cars. The Vantage is not in production yet, while the SLS is (along with the new McLaren F1 and the Corvette DP). Can't wait for all of these.
