Yeah I don't think I'll be anywhere near you guys no matter how much time I put into it. However much time it is it won't be enough. Looking back I think it was Quick and I that came together in that first lap of the qualifying race, I didn't want to ruin anyone's race in the full length race and was feeling very frustrated at that point. So rather than spoil everyone's evening by me bitching about how slow I was compared to everyone else I thought it best I quietly leave. I'm glad you all had a good race. Judging by that one evening though there is no way in hell I'll be even close with the time I have to practice. I was something like four seconds behind on a 1:47 lap which is ridiculous. That means in around 25 laps I'd be lapped and that's with me nailing it as best I could every lap, so more like 20 laps I'd be lapped. That's just embarrassing from my point of view. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to be four seconds slower when you know all about the theory of it all, have everything set up just right, and even watch a hotlap that someone kindly put up (thankyou btw) and still, even putting all that in to practice be that much slower around a pretty short track. I can't remember being this gutted about something in the virtual world ever. At least I can say I tried I guess but maybe iRacing just isn't going to work for me much as I really, really wanted it to.

When i started i felt the exact same way P.
Whatever i tried, i couldn't keep up with anyone.
And when i finally had the idea i nailed a track, Noodle comes by and drives around me as if i was going backwards, very frustrating but once you start to keep up the feeling turns into pure joy.

Don't throw the towel in the ring just yet.

Fancy a few laps?

Heh nah just winding down to hit the sack thanks though. I'll give it another go at some point, probably next weekend as I'm really busy this week coming up.

p.s. I got owned by the AI in project cars running the le mans 24 hour (condensed). They were at 50% difficulty. FML

P, I know the feeling. Despite having over a year in iRacing and driving on it consistently, I hit a brick wall maybe about 6 months ago and felt like I couldn't improve. It was incredibly frustrating in league when I felt like one of the slowest guys in the race. There were plenty of times where I would start the race and just not want to finish because of how frustrating it was to be driving around alone at the back.

While I'm still not nearly as quick as some other people here, it took reading a few books and using tools like iSpeed for me to recently improve past my plateau. Just "seat time" without focusing on specific aspects for me to improve on was not helping me in the slightest. If you're really interested in doing better, I highly recommend the following:

Stumbled upon this while watching the Skip Barber one.

Quite interesting I thought. Now I don't feel as bad about being a few seconds behind the experienced drivers.

I'm seriously considering renewing my iRacing membership. I'm getting that itch again. If I do I'll be taking the reigns as the slowest guy during practice sessions (can't race b/c I work Fri/Sat). :p

On that note, I'd like to throw out the idea of having a Monday night league??

LittleP, don't get discouraged now. This is the moment where you know if you like simracing or not. If you like it, you will jump right back in and practice. It's the only way to going faster and consistent. None of us are where we are today without it. Today, I managed a 4.5h stint in DP on Sebring, without FFB, only because I had confidence in my own skill and that took, so far, almost 2 years to build. I'd never thought about doing that then. Small steps. GT3 might not be the right car to come back to. Car control is best learned on cars like MX5 or Skip Barber, for a reason. No TC, ABS mumbojumbo, no setup blackmagic, low power, meaning you have to use car's momentum to keep it going. More often than not, slower is faster :) Come back and I'll try to help as much as I can when I'm around. Maybe we can start with V8SC, they're easy :icon_eek::p

4 Seconds off pace is not much when you're driving with people who have been actively practicing for years. Especially because it's a new track for you as well. Watkins Glen is generally seen as one of the easier tracks but that's not really true for the Boot configuration. The lines through those corners are hard to nail, let alone the bus stop.

Even when I'm familiar with a track, on a new week I'm always a couple of seconds off when starting out. I believe everyone has that and practicing makes you better at getting close to your previous competitive pace quicker.

I can imagine that it's frustrating to be the slowest guy on track but you might be surprised about the amount of helpful pointers we all of us can give if you for example post one of your laps here for feedback.

Thanks guys. Oh I love sim racing, and I'll be back. I'm really busy this week coming up but not so much the following week so I'm looking forward to working on it then :) And Quick apologized for whacking me off the track anyway so I feel better now :p

Lol, as the only Bimmer on track i have to defend myself against the stars and rings. Nah, after reviewing the situation right after the race it certainly hasn't got anything to do with you, after hearing the all clear from my spotter i waited a tad too long to make use of the space he was talking about.
By the time i turned in you were already at my bumper, and then we graciously touched bumpers.

Next time call me an asshole as soon as it happens ;-)

I've submitted several bugs this week. They acknowledge it and that's it. I'm hoping it all goes on a big to do list.
