iRacing Devblog - Dynamic Tracks

His dry erase board goes very in depth about his work. :p

Amazing though. Just plain amazing. Really takes iRacing to the next level. No other sim even starts to consider it this deeply. This will drastically affect how we drive and overall make for a much more rich experience. I cannot wait.

Looks like they're pretty far along. Great things coming! Especially for what he said on how it will impact day/night and rain in the future.

Very nice, that's a huge improvement. Dynamic tracks will make it harder to pass, harder to be consistent and it will punish your mistakes more. Yet, I don't think those are bad things, some people might be unhappy about the effects but in the end it simulates real life situations that make sense to have in a simulation.

I suspect they want to release dynamic tracks and time-of-day transitions at the same time because of the dynamic track temperature which makes less sense without a moving sun.

I wonder though about those marbles. He said they get displaced when cars drive over them. Does that mean they will stick to your tires and actually unbalance the ride and decrease grip when stuck? And it would be really cool if you would have to weave around to get rid of the marbles again.

I also can't wait to see and try out the effects of this in endurance races where it will probably matter most.

Nah. If someone complains about them making it harder (and yes more realistic) then they need to go back to Forza or Pcars or whatever. For most of us on iRacing though we use it as a sim and we want that realism in every facet.

I like to use it so I don't spend all my money on track days, on a track car, and everything else like that. Not to mention that it's doubtful I'll ever drive anything other than a MX-5.

I'm definitely looking for it and I expect a lot of unaware people will still try to go for that gap on the inside only to find themselves rolling away on marbles into infinity.

"I'm so excited!! And I think I like it!"

I'm very surprised that everyone (on the forums) is very optimistic about this being in the update for the upcoming season. Honestly I don't think it will happen without DX11, which I figured would be in for season 1 (mid December I believe)

This, in my opinion is worth much more than Nurburgring or any of the upcoming cars. As much as I want the ring and the Mercedes. What do you guys think?

I figure stuff will come out when it comes out. DX11 should hopefully be good as that's what they claim is holding their ability to make the audio not sound terrible. As far as DX11 visuals, I'm not overly concerned. If it ends up all prettied like project cars I'd probably turn it all down as much as I can.

Aside from the dynamic tracks (and dynamic tracks fix because iracing) and nordschleife, I am mostly excited for the Renault stuff to come out as a place to go from the skippy.

Oh and the new F1 car. I wana drive that.

Performance is much more important than visuals, I agree. I am not an open wheel guy but I'd pick up the new F1.

Where did you hear/see DX11 is the fix for audio? I don't remember hearing that ever. From my understanding it was pretty unfixable, partially because of how it was recorded, so everything would need to be entirely redone. I'm interested in that because sound is a huge deal to me and iRacing is literally the worst.

I never liked open wheel either until this season when I picked up the skip to improve my driving. Now I find I really like it. Regular cars feel giant and boat-ey now and the skippy doesn't even have much for downforce.

The sound thing was a staff post on the iracing forums saying DX9 was their limiting factor for audio at the moment. It was probably a month ago or more so who knows where it got burried

I am hoping that the DirectX version is what's holding it back. So hopefully you're right! Like I said, there's nothing like cranking up Pcars... even something 1/2 as good as that I'd be happy.

From the sound of someone from iRacing, this might go hand and hand with the new Track & Surface model:

Dave is working on flat spots, I don't know when it will go to members, but I have heard good things about it. I think it is all tied together with the marbles and track heat work so expect a rather large update at some point in the future.

This will be a complete game changer. Nice to hear all this. I hope I'll still have some hair and teeth left when they finally release it.

Great so the fronts on my Skippy are going to look like a friggen stop sign by the end of a race.

We really did not miss the build by much with this new system and should definitely have it in the December build since I handcuffed Jeff to his desk.
Not only are they very kinky at iRacing, but wow! DECEMBER!

I think it is all inclusive for everything in that post, dynamic tracks, DX11, new particles, sounds and other models.

Other takeaway: Sept 15, the Pro series is running Darlington on a dynamic track so look for that to be a preview!
