I mentioned in another thread at being new to open series so I thought we should have a spot for people to post, share and discuss setups. So maybe we can sticky this and continually add to it? Keep it organized by car and track, etc etc.

When providing a setup, please indicate at least the following:

  • Car (duh..)
  • Track
  • Type; qualifying, race etc.
  • Season (setups can become obsolete after new builds)
  • Properties; whether it's loose or balanced, how long the tires last and/or similar information.

Re: Setup Thread

Alright I'll go first. This is based off a setup someone else gave me. I find it pretty fast... I can hit around 1:21:xx optimal, and I'm still pretty new with the car so someone more experienced should be able to hit faster times easy.

  • Car: McLaren
  • Track: Mid-Ohio
  • Type: Race, but probably needs fuel adjustments
  • Season: 2014 S3
  • Properties: Feels pretty loose to me, maybe a bit too loose, but it definitely adds to the speed of it.

Re: Setup Thread

I organized it a bit which I thought might help if we get busy making all sorts of setups.

I have a setup that I used in a BSR GT race with realistic weather:

  • Car: BMW Z4 GT3
  • Track: Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
  • Type: Qualifying
  • Season: 2014 - S03
  • Properties: No traction control which makes it quite difficult to handle at this course. Wing setting at 1 to make the long straight survivable. Diff pre-load is at a medium value to deal with the medium speed right-handers through which you accelerate. Has some issues with off-throttle understeer in very low speed corners. The hairpin corner is supposed to be taken in 1st gear.

And my race setup:

  • Car: BMW Z4 GT3
  • Track: Circuit Gilles Villeneuve
  • Type: Race (~20 minutes)
  • Season: 2014 - S03
  • Properties: Pretty much identical to the qualifying setup. Tyre pressures have been lowered to make them last longer but after pushing for 15+ minutes they start to suffer.

Re: Setup Thread

You should now be able to upload and attach .sto to your forum posts.

Please let me know if there are any issues.

Re: Setup Thread

Thanks, uploading works fine. (Haven't tried a 1 gigabyte file this time but fortunately setups are not that big :) )

Re: Setup Thread

I'm still unclear as to what the .rpy issue could be? I know it's setup in the Admin Panel correctly as you were able to upload smaller .rpy files if I remember correctly.

My guess is there is a maximum amount of time allowable for uploads to take place, anything above that and the site times out.

I may adjust Session ID's longer to allow for larger uploads.

Re: Setup Thread

Yeah, that's probably a good guess. The browser shows that it is uploading but from the moment you start uploading I believe you get no feedback from the server. It seems to indeed timeout somewhere along the way and doesn't throw an error.

Re: Setup Thread

I saw you guys practicing on yesterday's stream. Looked good, close racing.
Mid-Ohio is slippery in this car, definitely requires some throttle control. I watched a replay of Max Dell'Orco doing a 1:20.1 in the BMW. He really throws the car around the right hander after the straight. He also doesn't seem to mind wheel spin on exits. He's first in qualifying right now, I'm not sure why that is not a Ruf because of all the twisty slow sections.

My best so far is a 1:21.4. I'm hoping to qualify with a high 20.x before the end of the week, but I'm pretty sure race pace will be quite a bit slower.

Also, did you see they are going to make Aston Martins? :D I would have welcomed a Mercedes SLS / Audi / Ferrari, but an Aston Martin is certainly nice. Especially with a paint scheme like this:

Car: McLaren MP4-12C
Track: Road Atlanta
Type: Qualifying
Season: 2014 - S04
Properties: Traction control is set to man-mode. Wing on the lowest setting because I feel you would lose more time on the straight than you gain in the corner. Full throttle through esses is possible with this wing. The car should have decent turn in but after that the emphasis is on understeer.

Here is my best lap so far in practice, done with 10 L of fuel:

Re: Setup Thread

I haven't even gotten down to 1:19:1xx; you're over a full second faster than I am.

Mind you I actually put fuel in the tank lol. Maybe tonight I'll try to run a few quick laps on fresh tires and no fuel to see what I can get.

Just out of curiosity, what is your average race pace carrying fuel (100+ litres)?

Well you need SOME fuel Duke. C'mon now. Don't try and cheat that much.

That was why I was doing testing without any draft to see what I could hit alone. Fastest I could get was 1:19.5xx. So I am gonna assume with a Qualify setup I can hit close to that.

I am curious also what your race pace would be. And by the way Noel, great job with the setup. Aside from a minor wing change (I am trying to play it safe and keep it planted) I love it.

Re: Setup Thread

Good that you like the setup. I tend to start with a fairly stable base and then make personal or track-specific modifications on top of that.

I have only done a few laps so far with a full tank, fastest I did was a 19.1xx but at the beginning of a stint I should be able to do high 18's I think. I'm pretty sure the front tires will go to crap fairly soon so I'm expecting a significant drop off in lap times over the stint.

Thinking of maybe doing a race tonight. I'll need to practice a few more full fuel laps and at least one pit entry :).

By the way, I don't think I saw when you originally posted that Aston paint, but that is a sweeeeet paint.

Car: McLaren MP4-12C
Track: Sebring
Type: Qualifying
Season: 2014 - S04
Properties: I feel you always need at least some wing at Sebring, so I have it on 3. Fuel is set to 15 L which allows you to do about 3 laps. The car might understeer a little through T1 and T17 off-throttle, but if you add some power it grips quite well at the front. I have traction control disabled because if you're a little careful you don't need it in the McLaren. T5 is very doable compared to the BMW for example.

I can't seem to upload the replay file. It doesn't show up in my attachments.

Pretty sure this is due to replay files being unacceptabe file types. As I said on youtube, great lap. Will help me out for sure... I don't see your setup file actually attached, either...? Am i missing it?

The file type is not a problem, I could upload the Road Atlanta one fine. I think it's the size that's too big. This replay is 9.7 MB. The attachment manager shows me the progress of uploading and when it finishes it never appears in the collection of attachments. We had issues with this before with large replays but I was hoping it could cope with these relatively small files at least.

Also, I've just realized I'm an idiot and forgot that I only uploaded the replay file for Road Atlanta. I'll upload it for Road Atlanta and Sebring, that should be no problem.

Re: Setup Thread

I'm pretty sure that vBulletin is somewhere not allowing larger files either in the interface somewhere (and I can't find it) or at the Server level (which I may never find lol).

Just out of curiosity Noel, do these larger files take more than 15 minutes to upload online? If that's the case then it could be a Session ID issue which we'll be stuck with because I can't risk extending the session longer than that (for security purposes).

Also, have you tried compressing the .rpy file with Winrar and then uploading it?
