iRacing V8SC Wednesday (part of Practice Pals)

This past Wednesday night we had a double s%&*load of iRacers in Teamspeak many of which were in the V8 Supercar turning laps at Oulton Park.

Good times were had by all but it was wasted time really. Given only a few of us are available for the small window in time these races actually manage to go official we were just turning laps in Practice for the fun of it.

Then it occurs to me (much later because I'm too stupid to pick up on it at the time) that we have enough people for a grid to go official so...

...why don't we race this beast on Wednesday nights in an official and pre-agreed upon time?

I'm sure streaming and perhaps a post at iRacing could get a few more Drivers interested.

I think it would be fun, thoughts?

Wouldn't mind a little bash at this depending on the time slot you do it in , there are quite a few people ( in the past ) from Europe that would like to do V8's but the grids were too small to make it worth while for most at euro friendly times.

Time in the V8 car is not wasted!

Its a nice idea but we'll need more drivers because you will never be "comfortable enough" to race this. GT3 cars are WAY easier and you cant confidently climb behind the wheel and go from practice to race in one night..

That's kinda why I'm leaning towards no. I am trying to commit to both BSS and IMSA - practicing V8 would be more time consuming than practicing for both series combined. I might jump on to practice on occasion but more than likely will sit out.

I did it in GRASim smart ass with less practice.

The point is that we can easily add a practice session of this on both Mon and Wed nights and then jump into a race. Most of the grid will be populated by people we know anyway so where's the harm in at least giving it a go once or twice?

I know it's not going to be for everyone but it may be fun to try.

It's a good idea but I'm not participating. I'm usually not around on Wednesdays and I have don't really have time to practice if I want to drive the Aston, GT3 for league and whatever endurance cars are coming up.

Well we'll see who shows up Wednesday and if it's viable we'll give it a go. Worst case scenario is there's not enough interest which is already the case with V8's lol.

Just bought the kia and you're right, it's incredibly fun. I like the car already. I might run this Wednesdays while you glutton for punishment pals run V8s.

I've been looking for a good reason to put some time in this car since I bought it. It's hard for me to invest time in it when I know I'll probably miss the SOF races anyways. I would also feel more comfortable in a grid populated by a majority of B2O'ers. If this is still going on then count me in. Only issue is I don't have Road America yet so I'll start practicing for Phillip Island the week after.

That was a pretty cool race guys, thanks for peer-pressuring me into it :).

Too bad of the early retirement Duke, I heard from Mr. Tortoise who was watching the stream that you barely had your tires in the grass after the kink. I believe I did the same a couple of times but somehow got away with it.

He mentioned I may have gotten on throttle either slightly on the grass or just coming off it which put me into the wall.

Given throttle control is an ongoing issue with me in the V8 I'm inclined to believe him.

I was racing from the start pretty hard with this one guy so it sounds reasonable to me. Things have been so bad lately I'm almost into the 1800's in iR.

Tony and I were discussing running Kias on Wednesdays... not sure how interested anyone else would be but just thought I'd put the discussion on the forums as well. I've already stated I don't care to get into the V8s because it's a time sink... too much time to be marginally decent in it compared to a lot of other cars.
Next week I will probably run it Wednesday night :)

I'm not really sure what to do here to be honest? I love the V8's but I'm running into the exact same problems I had at GRA. I really lack throttle control in this car and I crash out more times than I finish.

I love the V8 and so want to run it but I just can't master it with the limited time I have with it. I think the lack of both finite movement and feel in my right foot mean it's up to muscle memory to get me through and it's working just as poorly as it did at GRA.

Crashing out in Lap 1 at my favorite track VIR only to repeat it at another track I love, Road America, has just sapped my strength to go on. I know it sounds ridiculous but it's so bad that Phillip Island is coming up and this is the first time in history I'm actually not looking forward to running it.

Conversely I love running the KIA and wish more people around here drove it. It's a surprisingly fun car to drive and it's handling characteristics make it interesting due to front wheel drive.

I don't know what to drive given these two choices but I can say that if I continue to kill myself in the V8's the decision will be made for me.

This is what I've been saying from the start of this thread. V8SC makes for awesome racing, and I do love the challenge and the cars in general, but it's a time sink and requires WAY to much learning and driver adjustment to get even halfway decent that I'm not going to bother. It's a waste of what precious time I have. And one night per week is no where near enough to be competent in the car.

I'm looking into alternatives because if I can't convince at least 4-5 other drivers here to join me, it's unlikely I'll ever find an official race, unfortunately. Seems almost all Kia drivers exclusively run leagues, specifically one of the BSRTC leagues, which have piqued my interest, I will admit.

They're very well organized and I plan to write on the forums a thread a bit more about them soon... rather than infringe any more on this particular thread.

In any case, the Kia is a polar opposite of the V8. It's fixed, it's very easy to jump into and drive and enjoyable.

Love the car but unfortunately the SOF is too late for me to do. I already don't get enough sleep as it is and running past 11 EST just isn't something I'm trying to do during a week night.

All in all doesn't bother me, I hate racing official anyways :D

Long term, I'd rather stay with the V8SC. It is clearly the better car of the two, while both are extremely fun!

That said, these next to weeks are obvious V8SC drop weeks (Phillip Island and Barber) so I'd be down to run Okyama - Full and Oultan Park - Island with the Kia. Both tracks are pretty "meh!", but they're still better than what the V8SC's are offering as an alternative!

Also, the time required to learn the V8 Supercar is exactly why I am all for racing on Wednesday, and will look to continue racing it Wednesday night.
