Just starting out in Elite: Dangerous

I guess Duke has the only spaceship that comes with a tissueboxholder in the center console....
There was some sort of milky blur on his cockpit glass, so i guess he ran out :)

At the instant we were wing to wing your warpdrive engaged, which was quite an awesome sight btw :) i also wish i knew the screenshot button as hammering f12 didn't result in any :p

Nice thank you Shilka :)

Now i can save my "victories" in some sort of image dairy :)

I did find the folder, as that lead me to believe f12 didn't work :)

Anyway, how long have you been cruising around in the sidewinder when you first started?

Not long, as a beta backer I got an extra ship, which I sold immediately, so I was in the Hauler after that. For a long while though, as I went straight to the type 6 after that. I took me a week of rare trade good trading though...

If anyone's up for some nav beacon hunting tonight I would be... I'm feeling the need for some combat :icon_twisted:

How does that work out at the nav beacons, do you have to interdict everything? Is there people and NPCs just flying around?

A Nav Beacon is the place where all ships arrive at a Star. It's not in supercruise though so no need to interdict. You see a lot of traders/explorers passing through, think of it as a traffic light. You find all sorts there depending on which system you are in. Everything from police to pirates. I like to be a "hero" and go save any ships that are under attack from Pirates, so a bounty hunter role. So not really a hero (it's all about the bottom line) ;)

Right, but anytime I enter I'm in supercruise and I stay in supercruise. That's why I was confused.

You can jump out of supercruise at the beacon, it works the same as approaching another system.

The nav beacon is the entrance into the system so just about everyone enters trough there.
Just now we had a constant stream of wanted pilots at a resource gathering point which we were covering with 3 guys :)

It's pretty good fun, altho you have to keep an eye on the asteroids.
You can use them to your advantage but they can be a bitch when u need to run.

I wouldn't take anything bigger than a Viper into those asteroids. Too scary, especially when it gets dark.

How do you guys have your throttles set? I kept mine the default way but I don't like it. 0 is on a random place on the throttle and I have to change it before I fly off a pad and into a wall someday.

As of last night I'm at 90,000 credits. I found a good trade route for Palladium that's only one hop between systems with both stations being the closest to the Sun.

If I can't find a decent mission to do between these systems I simply run Palladium which nets a profit of over 500 credits each.

It's not a lot of money but it's quick and a better average than I've been pulling in the past few days.

I'm probably going to keep this up until I get up to about 180,000 credits as I want an Adder with 8 cargo bays and enough money to load up on Palladium if need be.

I'll also want to upgrade the systems on the Adder because I'll want to be able to defend myself and possibly do some beginner level Bounty Hunting now and then, we'll see.

From what I can see, the Adder is every bit as capable as the Sidewinder so the handling should be easy to acclimate to for me.

Incidentally, last night I just couldn't get my head on right. I nearly burned up in a star and then nearly got shot down in a station I entered without asking for permission.

Right now I admit I'm grinding a bit and I continue to be blown away by this game. I enjoy every single aspect of Elite: Dangerous because it just feels right, does that make any sense?

Today was a fruitful day, i managed to take out a couple of 20k+ bounties in the Eagle which brought me to 150k in total. Second bounty was 28k for an Anaconda with no shields that interdicted me:icon_cheesygrin:
I went ahead and traded the Eagle for a Viper and the money i got for the Eagle was the same as what i had to pay for the Viper so i had about 130k left for modules. (28k left for insurance which is currently at 12k per "accident")

I left the standard burst lasers on and added 2 gimballed multi cannons.
Added 2 shield banks and a higher rated shield generator, but it's a slight bit weaker than the one i had on the Eagle so i have to keep an eye on the shield status until i upgrade again.

This is absolutely way more fun than i expected from a spacegame :)

Makes complete sense. And I've flown into a station several times without asking permission too, it's a bit of a panic to get out again eh :icon_lol:

Glad you're enjoying it too Quick :)

Sounds like you two are well on the way now, watch out for Asteroids, they jump out at you when you least expect it.

Saved up close to 200,000 credits and finally decided to pick up the Adder today. I dropped the scanner and either purchased or upgraded existing cargo holds to allow for 16 I believe.

The reason I waited so long was it just doesn't make sense to buy a cargo ship you can't afford to fill.

My first impressions of the Adder is that it sounds truly amazing, I absolutely love it! It seems to handle pretty well too but I can't help but feel vulnerable in it simply because of the lousy view from the cockpit.

I'll probably upgrade it's power plant, shields and weaponry pretty quickly.
