Hey guys! Thought I'd share this for all the minecraft lovers, as I'm sure just about 100% of them are lego lovers. Well it is finally here... the official lego version of minecraft... and it look stunning.
Graphically the game looks amazing. No longer are you limited to a 1m cube building... you are limited only by the lego inventory (not very limiting) and your imagination.
It seems like it has some major advantages over minecraft, even in it's current alpha state, but also some major differences and drawbacks:
Advantages
- Character customization
- World customization [see screen below]
- Fine-building ability (much more accuracy)
- Real awesome build potential - And if Lego implements a sort of "buy what you just made" feature, to go to their store with an itemized list, and directions to assemble what you just digitally created... Lego will hit the jackpot
- Better build sharing (not yet implemented)
- Vehicular awesomeness... something minecraft fails at
- Wealth of creatures, items, and other objects
- Good price - for now
Disadvantages
- No real survival-type challenge(There is a sort of survival element)
- All building is more like creative mode in minecraft, which definitely detracts from the fun in my opinion
- This depends on your perspective - but it seems made moreso for a gamepad controller, not mouse and keyboard.
- Item / Collection system - If you've ever played any lego games, it is pretty close to the same. You collect studs when you break things. You then use that as a sort of currency to buy things. Which brings me to my next point-
- Unlock system - Items, builds, and other things are unlocked, I believe in a number of ways, sometimes as simple as by moving next to an object you've not encountered.
- Probably my biggest dislike: nothing like redstone... the underrated yet amazing feature in minecraft.
Overall it looks like a great great game. Defintely worth the 15 bucks on the steam store currently: http://store.steampowered.com/app/332310 I'm really hoping for steam workshop integration, as mods could really take this game to new heights... especially when you think about how it has both plagued and helped minecraft.
I will miss survival, and definitely miss redstone. Hopefully the former will be addressed as a sort of gameplay option, or a hardcore mode, something of the sort.
What do you guys think??
