Lost positions after pitting - need advice

Guys, need some advice. I ran a race last night on Nord GPS in Blanc Pan. I gridded at 14th. I put in 15.9 of fuel and unchecked tires. Moved up to 11th but after I pitted, I came out in 16th :( I thought I had put minimum fuel in. I managed to finish in 13th, but I clearly did not do something right in the pit stop. Seems the pit stop was only about 30 seconds, 45 at max. I drove really well, no incidences, so not sure what happened.

Is it possible some of the positions you gained from 14th to 11th were because people in front of you pitted right at the edge of the fuel window and got the undercut? That kind of stuff is nearly impossible to keep track of in your head while driving.

You say you grid 14th but were you able to maintain that spot or did you gain/lose positions?

Also, when you took on fuel was it in Gallons or Liters, makes a big difference?

How much fuel/laps did you have remaining at the end of the race?

It's really tough to say why you lost so many positions without clarity on what exactly transpired.

Unless you saw yellow flags or passed drivers it's entirely possible you gained the positions as Matt stated, due to drivers pitting.

Looking at the Results,

it looks like two of the drivers (Thiago Camargo and Eder Penetra) either had issues on the start or started from the back, and then pit early. They were behind you, but probably turning faster laps which means when you pit, they had made up enough ground to overtake you. Thiago fell off the lap after you pit in, so you gained that spot back.

Nick Ireland was behind you, but pit two laps before you. Again, he probably had little traffic, or just enough pace, that when you made your stop, he leap-frogged you and one or two others.

You ran a 2:04.499 in-lap, and a 2:36.093 out-lap with a fast lap of 1:55.739 and a race average of 1:58.739. Nick had a 2:00.527 in-lap and a 2:27.429 out-lap with a fast lap of 1:55.894 and a race average 1:58.308.

Your pace was really close, but he beat you by nearly 4 seconds on the in-lap and another 8.5 seconds on the out-lap. I don't know whether you were contending with traffic on your in-lap, or just had a slower, more conservative, entry to pit-road? On your exit, did you pull off with traction control? Did you have any traffic at pit-out?

I would double check that you took the right fuel, because 12.5 seconds is a lot to lose. Maybe you were slow in, but that 8.5 seconds out really cost you. Your other lap times don't show there being enough pace difference to result in the loss unless you were held up in traffic. You were even faster than Eder, but his in-lap was a 2:04.043 (same as you) but his out-lap was a 2:22.197 (14 seconds FASTER than you!!).

No, I was in 11th for quite awhile. I was able to gain some spots from the slower drivers early on. But then was kind of stuck in the middle for quite some time until I pitted. Well, at least I got 2 IR points out of the race

Wow, you cannot believe how bad the driving was last night on the GPS. Such a s--- show!!!!!!!! Gridded at 14th, right off the start there were incredibly aggressive drivers trying to get through on turn 1. Made through quite a few laps clean although so much traffic and bad driving, lap times were horrendous. Then all hell broke loose. Slow drivers wouldn't move, just would not let you around. Taking the inside lane with one driver on the outside, he swings inside, crashes me. I keep going he spins out. Another driver rear ends me, at least he apologized. Then this ridiculously slow Audi breaks really hard and early in the chicane, I rear end him. Try to pass him on the straight with another car in front. Have to slow down, Audi hits me in turn one. Still driving but in 19th place :( In the last lap, the driver in the first incident was waiting for me on the hill, smashed into me, clearly on purpose  Which then disqualified me for too many incidents. Mamoud Tetteh is his name. I protested and iRacing responded within an hour saying they had handled it. Not sure what they did to him, but I can't believe how pathetic the session was. Only lost 14 IR points but lost almost 70 SR points. Clearly not a lot of motivation to race if people just wreck you out.

It sounds like you just got into a numpty split, it happens.

Just shake it off and kick ass the next time you grid.

You can change gears under pit limiter,on some cars faster on some slower or you can take Noels approach and drive through pit without speed limiter.
At first I didnt like that but then when I checked replays people are doing that, especially top split.Just check VLN and how cars are jumping in pit haha
See here in one on my videos, start from 28:40.
I dont do it in league usually but I did 2 times I think, also Im not sure how much gain is this,I never tested

Yeah, that helps Denis, but it's a last resort optimizing measure. On a pit lane of about 500 m length (around 30 seconds drive through) doing 59 km/h instead of 60 km/h loses you 0.5 seconds.

Recently I heard somebody say that pit stops also have a random component. So you could do exactly the same as the guy ahead of you but still be slower (although not much). This could maybe also explain some of the differences we saw in pit times during league.

That is true, sometimes I exit from pit so much faster than guy in front or behind and sometimes later.
Did you ever tested this, just from entry line to the pit box, without pit service?
That is it,0.5?

Interesting, I try to always have the pit limiter on or end up getting a penalty. I think I lose time in the timing of speed entry to the pit, like slowing down too much before I hit the yellow cones, which is clear looking at your video. I think I can work on that practicing pit entrance more.

Yes that is important,I did get 15 sec penalty because speeding because I entered to fast few times, you just need to be careful.Im also still working on that and somehow when practice I always forget to practice pit entry and I know how important is but still I forget :)
People are doing this, especially those who watch Nicki Thim for example but yea,if its not possible it would be better

Noel I understand its math but I dont understand math hahah. Also it depends on car,how fast you switching gears, how much pit is long ,what car is it etc
