That is going to sound so drastically different to the Mercedes, it'll be an awesome audio combo!

Can't wait.

Damn, that's awesome! And more than 12 seconds! And only a week away!

Daunt's wife: "Are you coming to bed now?"
Daunt: "Oh c'mon, I've only watched this 260 times so far!"

You're right Duke. it's an amazing contrast.

I had been hitting F5 on my work comp every five minutes for the past week for this video and they drop it after I leave work! I knew they'd push that whole "We're the first to get the new R8 in our game" angle, and thank god. From the start I said that would be why they'd rush it out with or before the Merc.

So beautiful. Sounds don't seem to be on par with the Merc but it could be the video. Exterior sounds excellent.

It also didn't escape me that they have the positional lights in the window as well. I've got chills.

According to Steve Myers:

Steve Myers said:
Truth be told we had two requests from Audi on changes they wanted in the cockpit so we are trying to get those done
That's why we don't see the cockpit in that video, which I was excited to see. But no big. I MIGHT be able to wait until Tuesday.

I wanted to hear in car sound. As nice as it is to hear these cars from the outside, 99% of our time will be spent in them driving I want to know what they sound like!

Agreed ID.

My only slight agitation otherwise is the headlights. They don't look like the real thing, and my only guess (if I could put a finger on it) is the lens itself (the plastic covering) seems absent. It might be a graphics engine limitation sort of thing. But even in the video thumbnail above, the passenger's side light looks like it has nothing covering the lights, no lens. etc.

I know the car isn't released yet and it really isn't a huge deal. Just worth mentioning.

Some douches on the forum, among all the big deals they were making and whining, they complained about the roof numbers... I absolutely love it. As a painter, this means the entirety of the hood can be made to look absolutely awesome with no big numbers block.

Also x3,

Pre-Ordering is now available for the Audi R8 LMS, Mercedes AMG GT3 and Renault 2.0. The primary reason we are introducing pre-orders is we have added some functionality to iRacing when we are down for maintenance. Beginning with the scheduled downtime for the season 2 update you will be able to load iRacing in single car testing mode when we are in maintenance mode. You will be able to drive any content that you have previously downloaded and is up-to-date. Don’t worry, we’ll make the downloader available while we are in maintenance on Tuesday so you can update the new content that is not yet available.

The new Global Mazda MX-5 Cup car will also be available but since this is a FREE car there is no need to pre-order it if you want access during our maintenance period - it will automatically be available to download.

If you would like to be able to test the new content during maintenance on Tuesday you will need to do following: ---see link---

Unfortunately, that means that there is no large flat surface on the top of the car tho.. You have a hood scoop in the middle of the hood, so putting a logo across the full hood is a little impractical (in most cases). Your main sponsor is going to go where the "R8" logo is and the side of the hood is left open as shown so why not? Why take away the optimum flat spot on the roof for large sponsor logos to have a little more space on the side of the hood? Also, for the community, we almost always have B2O on the roof, and the number location takes away from that a bit..

It IS a little knit-picky but, personally, I agree it is just a little ridiculous to have it in a different location from EVERY other car when you're in a series that looks for a uniform logo template for series logos. Some things you want in a uniform location so that fans always have a general idea where to look for them.. I also don't see any real life example of this being used. Blancpain has the logo on the hood, as does the Stevenson R8 from Daytona this year, and although they also did have the number on the roof, it is not in a series plate as it is more a symbol for the team's number (they're old number 6 font) then that car number. The car number is in its generic font in the plate on the hood..

Oh well, that is what TradingPaintsPro is for, I guess...

I stand corrected. I managed to find an R8 without the hood number at Dubai, but it also makes clear my fundamental problem with this.

A.) What number is this car?
You can't tell. Its not possible to see a number plate from this angle, and, sure,
you could see it better if you were in the stands, but more fans see it from this
angle then you might imagine...
B.) What have they done with that space that a number play would block?
Like I said in my last post, some people will find ways to use up that space, but
the majority of skins are going to look like this, which, again means that it takes
away a large amount of usable real estate for a small amount on the side of the hood that usually doesn't get used anyways..
C.) This isn't a Blancpain car, it is a GT3 car from the 24h of Dubai.
iRacing uses Blancpain for a sponsor, so I'm going to have to default to Duke whether the logo location is in compliance with the Blancpain specs or not.

Either way, I'll wear your Douche patch with pride anyways. I think its dumb, and regardless of the reason, I will for sure be adding a number plate to the hood and eliminating the number plate on the roof and I'll be done with it and I'll be happy!

I agree with you as far as uniformity zac. And in Blancpain they defintely use a hood number plate. So I'd not be upset if that was the way to go. It wasn't a 24h of dubai car (you corrected yourself) iRacing said number plates on the top of the 24h of Nurburging, this was common, hence why it was there.

Still I think as far as viewing surfaces go, you see the roof the least... even in the video you see it maybe once or twice (I had to go through the video for the 100th time and find a good shot). As far as I'm concerned the number plate is not as important as the actual paint and sponsors. Maybe in RL it is but as a painter I like to have all the space to paint as possible and I think the hood is prime real estate. Granted maybe not as much in the Audi as other cars but still. If they put it on top for the BMW for example I'd be happy.

I just hope we'll be able to paint the sun screen thing (whatever it is really called I can never remember) and the front spot on the grill (where the R8 LMS logo is)

You won't be able to add a number plate to the hood Marc because it will always display a number different to that of your Racing number in official sessions.

I do wish though that iRacing would just pick a standard for displaying things and stick with it. I'd still love to have Blancpain in the window rather than McLaren and now this funky shit.

Oh well, roof B2O is at an angle anyway so chances are it won't be affected too much.
