March S2 Updates Thread iRacing

Instead of having multiple threads for all the new (lots) of shiny videos, info tidbits and more... I thought we'd use one for all the coming updates.

With that... new formula renault video:

Tony Gardner confirmed that the 2 GT3s will be out as well. No Imola for this build. With the two GT3s being added, he says only the Ford would be removed (thank god).

He also mentioned the Sprint and Endurance will mirror eachother.

Us on MC side are pushing for changes too in hope of streamlining series and increasing participation. See discussion thread in Proto Challenge subforum.

Yay Renault 2.0! Unfortunately it comes out in march and I'll be busy with other things then.

I just want more cars possible in any one series.

Please for the love of God iRacing, make it so or at least give us a good reason we can swallow as to why it can't be done.

I would love to League BMW, Ruf, McLaren, Audi, AMG and Aston.

Considering no AM has been announced for S2 and RUF is a fanboy car, they'll leave it in there, kick FGT3 to IMSA (hopefully) and add Merc and Audi. There's also Tony's motion to have Audi in IMSA with FGT3 (I'm for it), with DP and Radical as P and PC, respectively.

As Peeble mentioned, Classic MC series would have all the true icons of MC racing in there and hopefully RUF Cup back to open (real push there).

lol the Ruf is not a fanboi car, where on Earth are you pulling that golden nugget from? It's the closest thing we have to a Porsche which runs in Blancpain, simple.

It's a fanboy car this season just like any other fastest GT3 car is any other season. I never said it's not close to Porsche or anything remotely similar to it. It's a simple fact that enough crybabies showed up for Tony to keep an "unreal" car in the lineup (majority of teams used it to qualify for GT championship).

Then by that classification the McLaren could also be considered a fanboi car. In fact, you could probably classify most cars in iRacing fanboi cars after iRacing "balances" them in Week 13.

It's a simple fact in iRacing, Drivers go to whats fastest.

Tony says it's because of technical issues, it would lead to lower frame rates. But I'm not sure why it would be much worse with 6 cars rather than 5.

Also, somewhat related, they are planning some changes for the endurance events:

I really like the Le Mans and Nürburgring cars line-up. I just hope they add a GT3 car (realistically the Audi) to the 24 hours to have more diversity.

I'm not a fan of the extra time slots though. The only valid reason for them to have multiple 24 hour races in a weekend is load balancing. But if their solution is adding more races instead of fixing server issues then it is a bad solution.

I wouldn't mind 2x 12 hour time slots to give everyone a fair chance, that means that Marc might be able to actually race at Sebring :p

-------------------------------------

It's true that a lot of people use the fastest car in a single class series, which skews the championship in my opinion. There are plenty of drivers who go week by week while selecting the best car for it every time.

I've proposed a limitation in the iRacing forum where at the start of any series, you would select a main car. Then you can race anything but you could only score points (or gain iRating) with that main car. There are more people with similar views so I hope iRacing does something with.

Yeah i'm not a fan at all of the Nurburgring cars. Need the Audi or at least a GT3 in there. Doesn't make sense one isn't in there.... Le mans looks fun on the other hand.

As much as I hate the RUF, I like that it will continue to be in the series. The series is about diverse cars and to see those 5 cars in there will be awesome. I hope they keep the Ford balanced though, for leagues. I'd even like to see, when the RUF eventually goes bye bye, it continually balanced.

I'd actually like to see the ability to allow 6-7 cars, if only in private sessions / leagues. Maybe it's strictly a software issue, which I've believed for some time now DX11 will help with, but either way, I'd imagine some computers can handle it.

McLaren MP4-12C GT3 8909
BMW Z4 GT3 12953
Ruf RT 12R Track 7513

Good News everyone!

Our major graphics engine upgrade from DX9 to DX11 is going very well although testing and work continues on various odds and ends. The massive list of work we had to do is pretty small at this point. Our current plan for the March build is the sim will default to the current graphics engine, DX9. However we are happy to say you should have the choice to load DX11 in the March build and try it out in your races or testing. You can go back and forth between the two if you want or if any issues with one or the other. Although we have been testing DX11 in Alpha for months we will still consider this role out to members in March to be part of that “alpha” testing process to iron out any issues. Hopefully there are few or none but you will have DX9 to fall back on.

Then our guess is in the June build it will be reversed. DX11 will be the default and DX9 will be the alternative option.

Then late in the year or certainly at some point we will stop supporting DX9 as it is very inefficient to keep developing for both. Additionally, DX9 at that point would be holding us back graphically and performance wise.

We appreciate your patience during this process as we migrated iRacing from DX9 to DX11.
Personally I think this is perfect. A good way to transition for everyone. I'm very excited for March!!! As if I wasn't already!
