Holy **** this is like the lowest split rookie race  Some of the moves here were insane, and no wonder his engine blew! Oh, and dat music.

I'm glad that 'having to adjust rearviewmirror during race' is not simulated in the game though XD

And yeah, that video makes me feel better about some of the moves I try to pull off (like yesterday evening, lol )

Well, 1:44.2 is the best I could do so far in train ing today, hope that practicing with some of you this euro evening might help me under the 1:44 ...
Sure, I'm getting there slowely, but boy does it take hundreds of laps of practice...

1:44.0, soooo close....
Optimum is at 1.43.0 so should be possible, just need that 1 perfect lap...

Anyone planning on some practice on this this evening?

Having done this one before I hope to be able to take a step further on this track. I did some practice earlier, and eventhough I didn't improve my best lap time, I took my opt time down by 3 seconds lower then my best time, so should be plenty to gain on this track now we all have some experience...

I'm back in the Netherlands today so I'd like to try out Laguna Seca again. I'll be around tonight if anyone else is up for it.

This is a tough track and the Mazda is geared absolutely horrific for it.
Yes, definitely. On the finish line and after T4 you often have to shift to 5th but only barely. Before T3 you are either on the rev limiter in 3rd or barely into 4th before downshifting. After T6 on the uphill bit it feels like the car is bogging down due to not enough revs.

Ok! I did my second race on Laguna Seca. This time without angry Frenchies.

Qualified and gridded 4th. Started out pretty good, catched one guy at the start and managed to avoid the mayhem that evolved behind me in the first corner. Number 2 lost it in corner 3 and climbed to second place. Then... in the first corner at the corkscrew I obviously had to cut it and got a "slow down" which lasted till freaking start/finish. Fell back to 6th place but soon the cars in front of me started to be all over the place. Luckily evaded everything and got up to third place. In lap 8 I decided to cut the corkscrew again and got another "slow down" with number 4 just 3 seconds behind me. Surprisingly this one lasted very short and only lost 2 seconds in total.
In the last lap number 2 and 4 spun off, but didn't manage to overtake number 2 anymore. All in all, third place was a good result and the car was still in one piece!

Nice one. I guess you were a little thankful in the end towards the cars that spun out or crashed :D

Those slowdowns can be nasty. If you brake conservatively (as is normal during a race) before the corkscrew then it is really hard to avoid slowing down too early and then cutting the corner.

It seems you're better off just slowing down a bunch and getting the slowdown over with ASAP, because it might require you to be below a certain speed for x seconds. I wouldn't be surprised if the timer resets if you try to go too fast.

You'll never win a race in the corkscrew, but lose it there is very easy. We have this track in the Skippy series, too this week and I managed to screw up in the second to last lap in the downhill turn, kissed the wall and my 3rd place goodbye - second race I was very very coutious and managed a 3rd place. Gained +1 IR in the Skippy this week so far.
