MineCraft : Feed the Beast Fragtard Server

Hello Fellow Fragtardians !

D.O.A. here ,
I would like to take a moment of your time and inform you all about our MineCraft Feed the Beast server .

Currently we have a server at a hosting company here in the Netherlands (not to be confused with the ingame Nether mind you ) .
Kindly set up by a friend of Quicksilver .

At the moment it has a small population , mainly Demo (acerenegade6) , Flinty (a friend of mine from my EvE days) Afro_dragon and yours truly .
Also Wappy has been seen roaming the shadowy places on his never ending quest for the elusive Golden Hubcap ......

We would like to expand the server population though .
So to any who plays/has a copy of MineCraft , we would like to invite you for a visit and maybe settle down .
Currently we would like to keep it for Fragtard only as we have no anti griefing plugins running and we have no mods disabled .(example , Nukes are still enabled ).
So only people we trust are allowed at the moment .

If you are interested and want to have a look , please feel free to follow these steps :

1 : Have a look at our world -->here <-- .
This handy map lets you see what we are up to without going ingame .
It also lets us travel the world without the fear of getting lost .
If you mouse over the right side of the screen a sidebar wil show up and give you the option to switch to 3D mode , giving you a nicer view of the world

2 : If you would like to see the world more upclose and personal and allready own a copy of Minecraft all you need to do is get the Feed the Beast launcher from the -->Feed the Beast website<-- .

3 : Once you are done downloading i would like to direct you to Direwolf20s -->LetsPlay<-- episode 1 .
This has 3 reasons ,
1 : he explains it far better then i ever could .
2 : We are using his ModPack .
3 : His LetsPlay is also a great way to get introduced in the weird world of Feed the Beast .

At this point you have 2 options ; Either start a single player world and start playing to get familiar with FtB Or send Demo , Quick or me your ingame name so we can WhiteList you on the server .

You will almost certainly need the -->FtBWiki <--, as the higher tier recipies can get pretty daunting .

For those more faimiliar with Mc/FtB here's a link to 2 things I feel are pretty essential in order to enhance MineCraft .
These are -->OptiFine<-- and the -->Sphax PureBD Texture Pack<-- .

OptiFine , when installed , gives you more options in your game settings , allowing you to tweak MC and make it run smoother .
The Sphax texture pack gives MC a completely different look and makes it easier on the eyes .

I am thinking about maybe making some videos and posting them up on the youtubes , but thats for later .

I wanna try this, but I am stuck installing the texture-pack; I did everything by the book (version for MC 1.4.7, 128x128 for main pack and patch, drop it in etc.) but it just won't show up in FTB Launcher.

EDIT: Same with Soatex-FanVer-FTB; both show up ingame, but when trying to select them FTB crashes. Yes, Optifine is enabled.

I've got MineCraft! I never really got to play it though. Looking quite interesting, but that's a pretty damn big list of mods, or are they overall just small additions? Is this do-able/playable for a n00b like me?

Got it fixed by actually grabbing the OptiFine-version that supports 1.4.7....

Silly me.

EDIT: Or not; I get to the menu, but the world just endlessly loads while Java is using 3.5 Gigs of RAM when I try to start a game.

I'm still looking...

I've got MineCraft! I never really got to play it though. Looking quite interesting, but that's a pretty damn big list of mods, or are they overall just small additions? Is this do-able/playable for a n00b like me?

Its very do-able for any level player , just because the mods are there doesnt mean you HAVE to use them .
What having all those mods does mean is that you have more blocks available to you then in vanilla , so you can make that 1:1 scale replica of the Hagia Sophia look even more realistic .
Or if you think you can build a fully automated canned spam factory by using Industrial craft , be my guest .

You are only limited by your imagination , to quote somebody else .

Have you tried setting the amount of ram available for ftb in the launcher ?
It is set to 1gig by default .
When you open up the launcher , under the options tab there's slider to set the amount of ram .

As for custom texture packs , i havent figured out how to enable them through the launcher , i just enable them through the ingame menu .

I'll be on ts most of the weekend if you need any help .

Gotta love PC games...

This is the prime reason i love pc games , having to fiddle with the game keeps your mind active and sharp .
Although i wil admit that it can be frustrating at times , but when you do solve it , the satisfaction of having done so is that much better .

That's like saying hey I want to get to the top of this building. So I COULD use this set of stairs that is fine, or I could take this set of stairs that is broken, will need repairing and is on fire. And is upside down. Because hey that will be so rewarding when I get to the top!

I try to get into pc games again, and every one I've tried so far doesn't just work, like it's supposed to. I swear to god the videogame industry is the only industry that gets away with such bullshit, and then throw mods into the equation and you may as well stick burning hot coals down your pants and gouge your eyes out with a rusty spoon...

Thats why they invented the console market , so they can cater to the many people that feel just like you P .

And it s all good , to each there own .

And to answer your question , long version : Feed the Beast is a collection of mods for MineCraft .
Adding machines , magic , new dimensions and much much more , making vanilla MineCraft a whole new game .

Short version : Absolutely Not For You !

Yeah it is actually like tekkit , but some more and different mods all running the most recent versions (the Direwolf20 pack is almost ready to switch to MC 1.5 as soon as the last mods are converted to 1.5) .
