Minecraft Forge Server

IC2 used to be really fun and pretty straightfoward, but still quite a bit to learn and a lot of advanced stuff. Then I believe Greg took over and made it "expiremental" which added some pretty cool stuff, but overall made everything very complicated. A ton of extra steps were added in between for basically no reason, so you're forced to stand by a crafting bench with 50 different materials to craft shit for ten minutes.

For example, wire was made simply by laying 3 copper (or whatever material) in a row, and that would yield 6 copper wires. Experimental made it so you had use the forge hammer to pound a copper into a plate, then use cutters to cut that plate into wires. Other processes got even more steps in between which, imo, didn't really ADD anything but more recipes.

I can deal with experimental, but Gregtech I think made this on steroids and made even more useless crap in between, if I recall correctly. Sadly the original creator of IC2 hasn't developed anything since 1.6.x. Still a lot of fun though!

I'd be up for Resonant Rise, that is the pack i used to play with D.O.A before.

Pretty sure the current way is kinda confusing for new players.

My vote as well, if I'd come back to mine craft more often it will be with this mod pack. There's really something for anybody in there.

@D.O.A.

that made by hand, it gives more understanding of the process. If something goes wrong, you can quickly determine what it is. ready server is usually overloaded with many unnecessary and useless mods. you can disable them, yes, but why waste time when you can install the most necessary components.
use someone else's server assembly on the current map will be very difficult because of possible conflicts and inconsistencies (as I know, Mojang did not official support mods).

I'll be back soon, i am currently held up in life by something else...which i hope clears up as fast as it came.

I'm up for all the mods except GregTech, it makes crafting take twice as long time and in the end it will take more than it actually provides.

Admittedly I've not been on as much either lately. Somehow other games (Dirt/Pcars) have made their way into my, 'gaming appt', book..lol.

But yea, was on last night messing about with Thermal Expansion (really cool mod). With all the cool mods we have I feel like I'll end up becoming a jack of all trades master of none. I'd still like to figure some more out with Railcraft and Buildcraft.

I think Injen has been putting in time on the server for all us. ;)

Doc, I'll be happy to help you figurate industrial mods :) As I say, I have some experience in setting up their, earlier I administrate own server, protected by schoolchildren griefers and bugusers (many mods - lots of bugs).

Also, I want to offer you another great mod - Project:Red. It simplifies the standard Redstone schemas and server load is less than buildcraft-gates.

And Applied Energistics 2. He almost completely automates the production process IC2, ideally you can use it as if you are in the mode of creation.

If they are present in the game, Greg is no needed, I think.

Oh, btw сan you add to the description the available commands of plugins? /help is not work more.

Hey Injen,

I guess I'm a little confused by adding a lot of mods that seemingly do the same thing, albeit in their own way.

The impression I get from many of the tech mods either on request or already having been installed on the server is they do three basic things, 1. create power, 2. Move/Transport power and 3. Store power. And with all due credit they each have their respective machines, many of which have their own unique usefulness.

But when we're talking about creating energy/power, moving/transporting that energy/power and effectively storing and or using it, how many mods do we need that essentially do the same thing? Even if we're simply talking about moving items, we already have two mods that'll do that for us. (and quite effectively)

I guess until one really dives into each and every mod, do the differences stand out. Having said that, and having so many mods, if you're new to mods in general, is anyone who joins the server going to spend enough time with each mod to learn its intricacies?

While I appreciate that Project Red/Applied engergistics are good mods, I've already got Buildcraft, IC2, and the whole suite of CoFH/Thermal Expansion, Foundation and dynamics installed, of which Minefactory Reloaded and Redstone Arsenal effectively crash the server.

B/C we already have (seemingly) enough tech mods already installed, I'd rather look at mods that improve our current world. One of which (Twilight) has been installed and is currently running. And of course mods that don't require a restart of our current world as I've already decided one restart was enough.

I'm also looking at other mods like Forestry, Matmos Sounds and possibly telepads (assuming it doesn't cause lag after so many thousands of the suckers having been placed). M-ore and Cave World are another two I'm considering as they'll add a new dimension/dynamic to our current world.

TLDR; Its not that I'm not interested in adding new mods. I just don't want so many mods on the server that are redundant.

difficult for me to explain all the charm and nuances of different mods in English. and it is difficult debate as well :)
Returning to the history of version 1.4.7, the main industrial mods was the BuildCraft, IC and Red Power. now Buildcraft in fact useless (though he's one of my favorite mods), Rrojec:Red replaced Red Power because the original author gave up the development, but his functions have relevance still. IC is still core industry. Forestry left on the back burner, coz its main functions are interchangeable other modes (but he schesche useful materials that can be obtained by alternative routes - thanks extensions ExtraBees\ExtraTrees addons).
By unnecessary modes, I would mention MineFactory, SteveCarts, ComputerCraft, Factorizations, and some additions to the basic. They are very little use and load the server .
most of them repeat each other's functions, but this is because they are developed with the release of new versions, supplement and improve. At now wee have Mj, EU and RF energy, wee have BuildCraft pipes and TE pipes for transport items. Everyone chooses his own path. But besides the obvious similarities, they will have their own unique advantages.

Actually, I understand your policy server load resistance lots of mods, but I would not advise garbage =) myself experienced this....

p.s. what about plugin-commands?

I put a couple of more on today by the way. Jabba and Cave World. Jabba adds barrels that can hold a tremendous amount of inventory when upgraded and Cave World is sort of like Twilight where you have to build a portal. However, the portal in Cave World leads to well.... Caves..lol, where you can find quite a bit of ores.

By plugin commands, are you talking about mods like Single Player commands Injen?

**edit** spent a good amount of hours in survival mode tonight and I'm really liking the new Jabba mod along with Tinkers Construct. Made some pretty awesome pickaxes that seem to mine just as fast as diamond (some nice swords to) :D

However, there are other ores, and goodies I've found laying around the terrain that for the life of me, I can't remember what mods they're a part of...lol
