Monadail (Alba) Screenshots

Here's a bunch of screenshots of the mining town of Monadail in Alba, a town I've been working on for several weeks (months by now) on the Fealorinaan server.

Please note that not everything in the screenshots was built by me. Eventhough I made the city wall and the majority of the buildings, the buildings with the very steep roofs were made by Kvikling, the landscape and river were sculpted by Lunareala, as well as the bridge and some of the interiors of the houses. The fortress (wip) way up on the mountains was largely made by Zorandar, and the long and winding road leading up to it stuck against the mountainside was a project completed by Kvikling and me.

I'll start of with this view towards the city wall and access gate of Monadail;

The marketplace, which is surrounded by some of the largest homes for the wealthier inhabitants;

View towards the storage building, as you can see some of the roads/paths in town are quite narrow and give you that nice city feel;

Another narrow path (I tried to let all roads and paths flow with the existing terrain) leading towards the apartment complex;

View inbeteen some middleclass housing;

The seating area of the inn at the back (Inn built by Kvikling)

The miners guild building (by kvikling again)

A different view at the market, you can see the fortress, still under construction, at the top of the mountains

That's it for now, hope you like it, and as always feel free to comment :)

To be perfectly honest, I have never had any interest in Minecraft at all, mostly because I hear it eats a lot of time which is a commodity I have in short supply.

That being said, if these were the screenshots I saw of Minecraft back in the day, I'd probably be up to my knees in it by now.

This project you all are working on isn't just amazing, it's awe inspiring.

Terrific work all!

I LOVE the sense of scale, wow.

Thanks Duke! I must say it's great fun building on this server, and it's a really inspiring environment to be building in, my building sure has improved since I joined this server!

And this is just one town on the server, wait till you see Lunareala's cities or her palace, Tyrinari's expanding city, or Sillouete's pirate town and his ships, which are really amazing...
It's very inspiring to see how people manage to make fluent natural shapes out of square blocks, or are able to make bulging sails on top of rounded hull shapes, just using a 1x1 yard cube. There's so much to learn for me!

I love the background you gave for the forum Shil. Monadail really is one of my favourite locations, you did such an awesome job with it!

I'm going to post some pics of Griobmuir in the evening.

Wow this is f'in awesome, and it's all done in "vanilla"?

Somehow i feel i made a wrong turn by going with the modded versions of minecraft, not that i didn't like what i did and see in there (D.O.A.'s project's were epic to watch) but it was more the fact i got bored of the constant updates, changes and lacking performance on the servers i played on which resulted in me abandoning any projects i had at that time.

Anyway this does feed my appetite for MC again and i might just get back into that without all the technical stuff in it.

My hat is off to you, Miners ;)

Not really vanilla. We use worldedit for larger landscaping and building, a custom texture pack with lots of added textures, and the map itself is a custom one created with worldpainter. We also build in creative, because it would take forever and ruin the landscape to harvest the materials to build a whole kingdom in survival.

It's vanilla in the sense that there are no mods used that add blocks with functionality.
All we use is a texturepack, which is pretty straightforward and doesn't influence the functionality of the game. We do use a program that allows for more blocks to be added, but thats just for adding more textures to be used, its all just regular building blocks.

All this has been built in creative mode, so were not playing the game in the sense that we need to collect resources before we can build with them. Currently were just building stuff.

I fyou want to do something like this it's just a matter of finding a texture pack you like, start a new game in creative and start building. We don't have a lot of updates (except for texture pack additions, but thats a matter of half a minute to get it to work. We're actually lacking a bit of updates, as were using a by now pretty old version of minecraft, heh.

I suggest you to try it, it can take a shitload of time indeed but afaik it pays off in the end.
And ofcourse you're still the director of time, it's not that if u shut down MC you have to start all over.

I started by playing a couple of hours at the time (Not knowing what i had to do) but it resulted in quite a lot of satisfying moments and buildings once i got the hang of it.

And believe it or not, i was amazed by the building quality of the younger MC players i played with (love their fantasy).
They're not the typical 13 yr old's in a FPS for that matter.

Installing as we speak ;)

(Might go for it tonight tho, as today i am laying the foundation for my little brothers RL Log cabin)

We're gonna add mods eventually, though. I'm actually a bit worried because I know Tyri wants thaumcraft, and it has so many new blocks that I'll feel compelled to go and alter buildings just so I can use them. P:
I think we also have that one mod running already where you can use signs to create lifts and working portcullises etc.

Yeah, we do have some mods running already but those are serverside.

I know some of the guys here play on servers that use mod packs with like 170 mods in 'm, and each time the server updates they need to reinstall and solve all kinds of problems to get the thing running decently. Our server is nothing like that (yet).

The first thing I'm really waiting for is for us to move up a version or two on mc itself so we can use carpet and colored clay :D

I think we'll try to keep most mods server side. We don't want to make it hard for players to play the game!
Smart move, i spend countless hours to make mods working with each other whenever we updated the server(Latest was galacticraft and mekanism for Produx's server), most common issues are block id's being used by other mods resulting in trees changing into trees made of ore.... or preventing the server from starting :), funny sight but definitely game breaking.

However, Thaumcraft and similar mods are client and serverside.
The easiest thing to do then is make a backup of the world folder and from there create a modpack of your own (really easy) and share it privately using a key trough magic launcher or the like and make it auto update.

If you watch Direwolf20's server letsplay video's on youtube(or on twitch) , you can see a server side modpack at work , its mainly a developper server so the devs can test new builds of their mod .
I have no idea how they do it , but whenever its asked where they can download the mod pack they always answer that you cant because the mods are all server side , so it is possible .

I think it's more likely you just don't get enough oxygen to your brain wappy. Or perhaps you're getting plenty of oxygen but have no brain.

Either way somethings up :lol:
