Opinion on article/new rig.

I don't know much about cases, or coolers or mother boards. So I don't know if there are cheaper (but still compatible options). My only kinda benchmark is to be able to run most games on ultra and a PC that I won't need to upgrade for idk 5 years.

I suggest strongly against this line of thinking. Generally if you upgrade around the 18-24 month timeframe, and buy only sufficient for your foreseeable needs, you can end up spending less with better performance for the duration of your build. Especially true in the video card aspect. My personal example is my i7-920 and 2x GTX 260 Core 216 cards. Not that expensive, but at the current time, I'm having a hard time finding a single video card that'll improve my experience for under $400. For people's current builds, I would suggest the new 650 Ti Boost card at $150 apiece. You can use one now, SLI later and still spend less than a single 660 TI right now. Just my $.02!

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with JK's build wayyy back on the first page. I have to buy a monitor too I believe as my current is old and only has a VGA.

And get an SSD as your primary drive. 128GB is good for installing windows and a few other critical things, and keep a big mechanical drive for all your junk.

I appreciate any input obviously. I was thinking of SLIing two cards also.

Don't SLI unless you have to d00d, it represents more power consumption, more cooling headaches and does not deliver twice the power like some seem to think.

I'm going SLI only because I was given the exact same 670 that I currently have but if given the choice I always buy the best single graphics card I can afford.

...however, I always purchase cards that are SLI ready but out of all the cards I've ever purchased, this is the first I'll be SLI'ing; represents about 1 in 10 in my situation.

This simply isn't possible, you will always need to upgrade to play at higher quality and there's no way around it.

Games are in a constant state of development and will always push the boundaries which is why Hardware is always changing.

If you want this system to last 5 years and play games at 1080p with DX11 features running, you'll probably need a new video card every 1 1/2 - 2 years. Less frequently if you don't have strict demands on your idea of acceptable frame rates.

Also, if you want your CPU to last that long you'll need something that's unlocked so you can overclock in the future. You typically don't need to overclock right away although some do, I prefer not to until I have to though your preference may be different.

After chatting with JK, 99% this is the build I'm gonna get. But if anyone can cut a few dollars here and there I'm all ears. Although I'm sticking with newegg.

Finally pulled the trigger. Got the above config except subbed out the WD cav blue for a WD cav black (thanks duke). Thanks everyone who gave me input for this!
