Picked up a Samsung 850 Evo SSD

I've been talking about it for a while now but I finally broke down today and picked up a Samsung 850 Evo SSD.

These SSD's seem to perform well given the reviews I've read and given the price of $120 (normally $171) for the 250 GB it was just too good to pass on.

Is this your first SSD or did you have a different one before?
I've had a 128 and 256 830 Evo, and I still use the 256 alongside my 1 TB 850 Evo and never had any problems with Samsung drives. I would recommend checking if you have the latest firmware installed, their SSD magician software is quite handy for that and some other things.

I have a Crucial M4 as my current OS SSD and love it but the new Crucial I was looking at didn't fare so well in all the benchmarks I reviewed.

The Samsung held up very well by comparison and given the massive sale it seemed like a no-brainer to pick it up.

For the firmware, do I want to check this with the SSD running as a slave and update it that way or can I do it via flash prior to installing Windows?

...or can I just update the firmware after installing Windows?

That's really good to know.

I've been contemplating this move to a bigger SSD and Windows 10 for a while now, ask Zac. I really wanted to make sure I was making the best decision given my storage needs and performance requirements.

The 850 reviews so well and performs well alongside the best of them.

Initially I wanted to stick with Crucial but their latest SSD just isn't up to task when compared to the 850.
