Excellent write-up Daunt!
Agree with most your comments too, although all can be excused by saying: early alpha! I'm really curious how this game will pan out eventually, but it's already betterthen RCTW as it is now...

Right now I'm pretty frustrated with the item tool and lack of transparency of what I can do with it. That and the godforsaken path tool.

You're right. Quite a few of my gripes will be fixed very soon and there's no doubt about it's greatness compared to RCTW already.

One tip with the paths tool; if you don't want it to snap to the nearest path, keep ctrl pressed during placing ;)

Well, alpha2 is getting closer, and I'm impressed with what you can expect...

Here's a list of stuff I came across that should come in phase 2:

  • You can rotate and translate pieces along any axis you want in 'advanced mode'
  • Some guests will behave as couples
  • Upgrade tool and stairs for paths
  • Sand and grass paths
  • Splits in paths (next to the existing crossings)
  • Placeable special effects (fire, bubbles etc.)
  • Very versatile terrain tools
  • New coasters (as far as I could tell at least free drop, floorless, winged , flying and hydrolic launched)
  • More coaster builder options, like setting station length, stop before drop, setting speed on boosters and brakes, scaling premade components and paint options for tracks and (some) trains.
So it looks like we'll have even more freedom when placing stuff. The terrain editor is so powerfull they managed to make this:



Thanks to a very smart option where you can raise/lower terrain 'towards the camera position', you'll be able to do so much more with the terrain then in a regular editor. Just awesome!
I'm impressed and can't wait for phase 2!

Great! Those terrain features look great and I can't wait to see what I'll be able to do with the new advanced mode you describe. Or moreso what everone else can do...

Hope the roller coasters got plenty of love. Can't wait.

I'd say it's more folk. But did you see the trailer(s) for American Truck Simulator??

Still can't believe these devs.... might be my new favorite developers, honestly.

The 25th (Thursday!!!) is the last day to get in the early access alpha stage. The game is coming along incredibly, and can understand why someone would want to wait, but this game is so unlike other early access games that are just a cash grab.

Alpha access closes after the 25th to prepare for the beta phase, with release planned for late this year.

Had a quick look, the new alpha is excellent. So many pieces to play with!
And stats! Will be getting more rollercoasters up for sure now. Though when I'm honest, can't wait to get my hands on transport and kiddo rides, which are my all times favorites to play around with :)
