Site freezing

Man I really don't understand what the issue can be?

I wonder if I should kill all the addons for now and see if that helps?

Yup, having the issue on both pc's. It's weird alright - I'm always posting on various forums and have never seen anything like this. It's not a big deal though - I copy and paste everything I write in word in case it freezes up and I lose my post. Right clicking on "copy" doesn't copy it either once I press Post Quick Reply... it somehow loses the fact I pressed copy, hence why I need to save it to notepad.

This site haunted or something?

I haven't a clue to be perfectly honest? I just ran a major update on the software and aside from the fact that it completely screwed up the template system, the actual workings of the site improved overall.

I think the only thing I can do in your case is to force your profile to load the vBulletin default theme and see if that improves your experience. If it does it means I have some type of a template conflict between the .css for chrome/ie.

If that doesn't work, I'll have to disable all the site addons and see if possibly one of them is creating an issue.

There's just no other way to properly diagnose the problem that I can see.

What I don't understand is why I can't duplicate your issues at home on my PC?

Just had a freeze too while doing an edit; it's reproducable, but note this only happens if I try to edit the same post for a second (or more) time! The first edit will work allright

If I'm on my second or more edit and I click edit post, and then press save it freezes.

However when on my second edit I click edit post, then at the bottom of the edit screen click edit post again it brings me to an edit screen that won't freeze when I click save.

Running windows XP with IE8 and no addons.

Again, please note that when I edit for a first time all is allright, and I don't have another edit post option at the bottom of the page. When I edit an additional time, I will have a edit post option at the bottom bringing me to a new screen, and using the first screen and saving will freeze me up.

OK well that certainly gives me somewhere to look. I do have a WYSIWYG addon installed but it isn't enabled as it doesn't render properly.

I'll uninstall it completely from the site and see if that helps.

Thanks for the heads up Shilka.

Nice find Johnny, thanks :)

I've disabled gzip output but there is another setting in there that I've never seen before:

  • Force Latest IE Mode:Force IE browsers to render in their latest version.

Force IE Mode is currently disabled but the fact the setting is even there means that the tards over at vB know there's an issue yet there is nothing posted to alert users that there is a potential issue with IE.

This is why Webmasters hate IE, you have to jump through so many hoops just to get that donkey sh1t of a browser to render anything as intended.

The first post in the linked thread suggest disabling compatibility mode, but that seems to be a dead end.

Is anyone here still experiencing issues with the site freezing or becoming unresponsive while browsing and/or creating/responding to topics?

Haven't posted enough yet to really see at this point... I'll let you know.

Thanks for taking the time to re-do the site, I know it's a PITA.

It's totally worth it if it makes things easier for your guys :)

...besides, IE still represents just over 50% of our Internet Traffic (on all sites) so it would be foolish to ignore problems with it.

Actually I was speaking with both Haja and Wappy today and Wappy happened to mention that he noticed the same thing happening when he visited GameTracker from work.

It would actually make much more sense for this to be an issue caused by a remote source (such as database driven statistical information) as was the case with my Fragtard.net/GameTracker Signature.

I've since removed it from my signature which I believe will help.

I did the site rebuild just to make sure the issue wasn't created in my many template edits, custom theming or during the upgrade process but it still never really made a lot of sense to do it. Remote images not loading quickly enough or the site waiting for an offsite program to run its course makes much more sense.

I guess we'll see what happens.

I have no idea what the problem can be then

Have you noticed if any of these posts had mondo in them because he too is using a remote signature?
