Site Performance Reports

I typically have a post like this at every site I create so that we can monitor site performance and catch potential issues before they take us offline.

This topic is meant to document any of the following:

  • Site Speed
  • Error Messages
  • Changes in settings (such as no longer receiving e-mail notifications upon receipt of new Private Messages)

This also helps determine whether or not recently added plugins are creating issues with our site.

Should you experience any of the above, please share your experience with as much detail as possible such as:

  • Web Browser Used
  • Time and date of issue
  • url of issue
  • exact copy of error message
  • frequency of error(s)

Thanks.

All sites in the Network were hanging, slow to respond and/or down entirely a few times yesterday (March 14, 2012) and early this morning (March 15, 2012).

The reason for this is some sites are running a 3rd party vBulletin SEO Addon called vbseo and it is this addon that is eating up all our Server Resources.

We are currently in the process of either repairing or removing vbseo from the Sites affected. Fragtard is ok but Movie-Talk.net has had vbseo removed completely.

Hopefully as we work our way through this latest issue, server resources will start to stabilize.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

All sites have been experiencing intermittent downtimes over the past 12 hours.

I'm not sure about the previous issues but the reason the sites were down today is that there was some mixup in billing.

We split this server with a Webmaster friend of mine who actually pays the Server in full monthly off his credit card. It looks as if the Credit Card had expired and the manual payment he made was sent to the wrong address with our Webhost.

It's since been sorted out and all sites are back up and running all be it there still seem to be some speed issues.

Anyway, still sorting through the rubble, my apologies for the interruption in service.

As some of you may know, Fragtard and all my websites are being hosted on a Split Dedicated Server out of Chicago IL.

The guy I split the server dues with is starting to worry me as he's not paying attention to the Billing portion of this deal as much as he should be.

Just know, if the site goes offline that I am aware of it and working to get it back online. If I can't for some reason get it online quickly, I'll likely move to my own Dedicated or VPS Box and loose the partnership.

This will not affect our Teamspeak or Battlefield 3 Servers, only the websites will be down, possibly.

This guy is so stressing me out it's ridiculous. I took time off work to relax, not worry about my Customers and my websites.

Just a short update, I still haven't heard a peep from my Server Partner so it's looking more and more likely like we'll be offline soon.

I'm spending the entire day today pulling complete backups off the Server and databases just to make sure we don't lose any information.

At this time, its quite likely we'll be on our own Server before the week is up.

Assuming this is the case, I'm not sure whether or not I'll be able to retain the IP addresses I currently have configured on this Server. This means that even once the sites are up and running on the new Server, all domain names will have to be redirected to the new IP addresses so the sites will remain offline to many until DNS has fully propagated.

Hopefully it doesn't come to this.

Ya what do you do?

Note to self, if I ever partner up with anyone again it will rely heavily on a 3 month pre-payment. If that payment isn't renewed within 10 - 15 days of month 3 then I'm bailing out.

Ah, at the end of the day it's still all worth it, I really love doing this stuff although I wish it could be a bit less stressful right now lol.

BTW, if anyone notices site related slowdowns, it's because I'm pulling full backups of close to a dozen sites from the Web Server and database Server.

I have a few rather large sites on the Server so performance may vary for at least the next few hours.

This one has been going on for well over 2 years now so I'm surprised that my Partner if flaking out. Both him and I got dragged through the mud for years due to unreliable Web Hosting so we Partnered up on a split dedicated out of Chicago.

I don't know where his mind is at because he's become so reclusive that I never hear from him anymore.

This is the biggest reason I'm so stressed out. I have a lot of content on the Server and Customers who rely on me for their sites to remain online. When the Server is taken down or goes offline for any reason, I look like an unreliable schmuck.

Anyway, I still have some backups to take so if the worst does happen, at least I'll be able to restore us to where we are now.

All sites were down today for somewhere in the neighbourhood of 8 or 9 hours. As it turns out, the Zones set on the server were somehow changed to Zones we haven't used for years and as such, none of the url's would resolve to the proper nameservers.

It has been fixed but we're still monitoring it.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
