Star Wars - The Old Republic

Well I've made it to level 23 (50 is max).

Being a long time WoW player I must say that I like how different it is. It certainly could use some changes though. The addons and macros in WoW made some of the chores much more livable. As of now I am playing a healer and struggling a bit because the UI is NOT healer friendly. The classes also do not seem to be as balanced as they should.

A tank should have the abilities 'right at hand' to get agro so that other players don't die so easily. Or perhaps I have had a bit of misfortune in grouping with fukin newbs (this is completely possible). From a healers standpoint I need to find a way to ease the pains of having to single select other group members and heal them in the chaos of battle.

Crowd control also seems to be a HUGE factor in game play, which is ok with me. Again I complain about being grouped with newbs because they don't seem to get the idea of crowd control at all.. Hopefully I can get past some of the minor irritation. As of now Solo play is incredible and I enjoy the range of abilities.

I will post here as I learn more about controls and how to play properly..

More to come.....

I've never really played a Star Wars Game and can't say I've been too enticed to try it myself.

I do know that they seem to be hugely popular though so I'm wondering if it's something I should try in my downtime (assuming I ever get any lol).

Would you recommend the game IR?

Thanks for your 'report' IR!
I've been curious about this one for some time and more info is always welcome.
I have much of the same problem as Duke though. I've heard a lot of this thing called "downtime" but I still believe it to be some sort of urban legend.

Do I recommend it? I have to completely acclimate to the UI before I can comment completely. Understand, I've been playing WoW for a long time and have gotten used to certain things being a certain way.

If you enjoy a decent story and slicing with a light saber/being a bounty hunter with laser pistols/using the power of the force (insert force lightening or whatever else), then you might like this. First and foremost this is an MMO, so multiplayer is a huge facet. The game is still brand new though and it feels like it. I assume features will be born further down the road.

I have found a few new UI features that might help in my endeavors but haven't tried them in practice yet. I will update as I play more. So far it is indeed a lot of fun playing the dark-side and being an evil jerk heh.

*warning : very personal opinion ahead (mostly based on the Bounty Hunter storyline)*

I played it for the first month , mostly bounty hunter , got to about lvl 30 .
The main problem i had was that the story got really repetitive .
Up to the point when you get your starship (back) and head out to the second planet its very interesting but then the story gets dragged out to much .
Not wanting to spoil to much for those who do like it/intend to play it , but for the bounty hunter goes , the story that unfolds on the tutorial planet goes for the rest of the story , you are basicly doing the same thing on every new planet .

Also there's not alot of variation in the spaceship missions and not alot off incentive to do them , it almost feels like they added it as an after thought (i might be biased after playing EvE for so long though) .

As for the pvp , well i all i really can say is : HUTBALL SUX ASS !!!!!
Damn but that is one shite form of pvp , if that gets anywhere near E-Sports i'll bite my own eyeballs out , just so i am sure there is no possible way for me to see it ....

I did play around with the conquest type of pvp zones, they were fairly fun , but really generic .
Other games have the same form of pvp but done better (Rift for instance) .

I personaly feel that Bioware is The games company when it comes to single player story driven rpg's but should stay away from mmo's .

Having said that , Sweater is still a decent mmo , and one with great stories , just stay away from Illum .....

DOA, that's the thing with MMOs, EVERY one that I have played gets repetitive. I find that this is the same with all games though. How tolerable the repetitiveness is depends on the person playing and what they enjoy in a game.

This is one reason why I am giving SWTOR more than a quick glance. The more polished MMOs have been around for years to get where they are now.

For me PVP is not a big deal, I don't have the time to develop the skills that most kids get from playing 12 hrs straight and for weeks at a time. I want a game I can get into and put down without affecting my progress adversely. Most MMOs can be opened, do a few quests, log off, and you have actually accomplished something.

I also prefer to have the option of being able to do something alone so that, if I can't find a group quickly, I can progress without them. I know multiplayer is a huge aspect but I don't to wait more than 30 minutes to get something started.

So far SWTOR has given me the game play that I desire even if its not quite where it should be; there are many bugs. I will report some when I progress further.
