Test run of a new project!

I'm afraid the performance wasn't due to lag as I had the same slow downs using the editor :-/ I guess it's because of all the elements in the map in a relative small area...maybe.

Also, my crappy video card may be another big reason for the slow downs (I'm guessing this is the biggest culprit for the lag)

I'm thinking to release it veeeery soon as it is!
I managed to work alot on it yesterday, fix the satellite image and a few other things,
so it looks ok!
Except that I also got more lag now than usual...

So I think I won't work anymore until january, so I'm thinking to release it and let the public test it. It shouldn't do any harm?

There's alot of things, like interiors, trashcans, backalleys and stuff I would like to add,
but I think it can be played without that stuff for testing purposes atm.

Or maybe wait until those things are added, and released in an impressive state?

Edit; Feels like I should wait and make it slicker first. Can't decide! :icon_lol:

I'd say it looks quite awesome already, but maybe the most noticeable "bug"/features should be fixed or at least mentioned up front in a readme or something before a public release.
I'm thinking especially of some of the doors not working, windows that are not acting like windows and the problems with the stairs above lvl 4 ;)
If people knows about these things and that they will be fixed they're less likely to react negatively when they encounter this during play.
Just my thoughts of course...

Yeah, good tip!
I would like an open alpha type of thing, with frequent updates.
Because I have alot of questions; performance, how people will use the map and so on...
So it would be helpful to release it as early as possible.

Sounds like a good idea then. Just make clear that this is an alpha and what problems you are aware of (that they will encounter) and everything should be good for the public.
There were no game-breaking problems with the map/island itself so in that regard it is good enough for play testing :D

Found the lag issue! Unfortunatly it's all the decoration inside those really high buildings, desks, chairs and PC's...

Ahaaa....but they are also essential to make the environment come alive :(
Do you know if they will lag if they're not "drawn"? In that case maybe reducing the viewdistance will be a cure. If so you should maybe write a recommended viewdistance in the readme or something ;)

Yes they have to be there!
But I'll add them a bit more carefully and use simpler decorations more.

Unfortunatly viewdistance didn't help enough, as soon as you got near the big office it would slow down!

I hope you can test the release version and compare!

I wish i had the ability to join the last weekend :( expected it to be during the evening, but noticed it happened around noon?

When i have the time i will download it and see how it works, remember we also have the A3 server.

If you want, i can slap it on there ;)
