The Secret World

I was not going to do it but I did anyway. I bought The Secret World and I have to say this game is awesome. The atmosphere the design and presentation are very well done.

There are no levels just 2 types of skill points that you design your builds around with your two weapon types. There are no specific classes to play. Theoretically you can play them all. You build your decks, then you can swap them in and out at will. So you can play tank, healer or dps whatever you want. At the start you do need to kind of chose to build up so you can build up skill points.

They did a great job with the questing system as there are multiple quest types. There is no quest hub system in place. There are the main story line quests, investigation quests, puzzle quests, action quest, stealth quests, and group quests. You can swap them in and out as you please and every quest is tiered. It's a nice change of pace from the normal themepark style of play you get from most MMO's. They did a nice job on the story line its all voice acted and well done. Think SWTOR, but more sinister and creepy.

Another thing, this game is hard you cannot just roll a char and faceroll everything. Even in the start area you will get you ass handed to you.

It has a few problems like any big game launch, but nothing really gamebreaking.

What's your name in game?

I am enjoying this game, especially more than SWTOR. It's got a mechanic similar to GW, in that you can only have 7 active skills and 7 passive skills, but you can mix and match however you like from everything. A lot of skills need a specific weapon type, though you can use 2 weapon types at a time.

I'm Happyclam and Drauka.

I tried out the beta, and it couldn't really catch me. I gotta admit though I only played it for a brief moment.

It did look pretty good though!

The skill system is pretty much the same a GW2 you setup your builds using 7 active and 7 passive skills from a total of 525 skills. You can swap your build or individual skills at anytime. The game is still young so few people have that many skills, but in theory if your in a dungeon or even questing you can switch from tank to healer to melee or even ranged dps at will. They also have a handy gear management system were you can swap weapons and armor stats based on group need. I think this is the wave of future as it gets rid of the holy trinity of MMO's Healer, Tank & DPS. GW2 looks like they're are taking a similar approach.

There is no armor in this game you basically assign stats to the clothes you wear. There are many options how your char can look.

Funcom just had their 1 month anniversary. All I can say about this game is, its about the most fun I ever had with a mmo. Awesome skill system the best pve questing and story ever in mmo IMHO. The story line even tops SWTOR.

I know this game might not be for everyone because this game can be very frustrating at times. This game is not easy mode. This game actually is kind of hard. This is where most of complaints come from. People are trained on easy mode themepark MMO's and just freak out when they can't do something in 10 seconds.

The game has some issues the pvp is hit and miss. Sometimes its fun as hell then other times its just a dud. They have developed some balance issues like the old GW1 because some people are smart and make some wicked pvp builds that just maul people. Some of the missions have breaks, but they are fixing most of them with updates and the travel system is not very good. They just did their first major update with new mission packs and more 2 more dungeons.

Speaking of their instanced dungeons everyone one of them so far have been in has been well designed and fun with challenging boss fights. What they done which I wish other companies would do is the got rid of the trash mobs. No more killing endless trash taking hours just to get to a boss. Every fight in a dungeon is a Boss fight or mini boss fight. Most of these dungeos can be completed in under a hour depending on you group make up.

Soon Funcom is going to have a Free Trail week or something. I will post it here. This game is worth a try.

This game now requires no subscription and there are no restrictions to the game content. Future updates with consist of DLC packs. The game is on sale on steam for $23.
