When you tell normal people about iRacing

I get a lot of mixed reactions when I tell people about my all-consuming hobby of simracing. I like to have my friends over often and I've tried converting more than a couple of them... I'm still working on getting a couple friends away from stupid consoles still...

They all love my setup and have fun iRacing - they all play video games (mostly consoles) avidly, but usually not racing games. Then there's a couple of my friends that are BIG car guys... they enjoy iRacing as well but maybe my car guy friends are just odd. They love street cars and car meets and shit, but their motorsports interest goes only to track days and that seems to be it. I don't get it.

My wife's beyond tired of hearing about iRacing haha... but now it's all about oculus and when I'm getting it :p

Anyone else have any stories about sharing your passion?

Was going to respond but then I read "it's all about Oculus and when I'm getting it".

Choice A: Oculus Rift

Choice B: HTC Vive

Choice A vs Choice B in summary:

Choice A: It's VR but very limited

Choice B: Does everything Choice A does, and does it better. Opens up a whole new world of possibilities beyond sim racing not just now but for the future with room scale and 360 degree tracking. No need to change anything for seated experiences (sim racing). Has a better, brighter screen. Has a much bigger FOV than the Rift so it doesn't look like you are looking through a pair of blurry binoculars.

Choice A: umm.... It's VR.. but very limited field of view and a darker screen... oh and forward facing tracking only. Oculus Home (LOL). Mark Zuckerburg and the facebook overlords.

Daunt: "IMMA GET TEH RIFT"

Seriously Daunt if you get the rift you may as well be a turkey voting for Christmas. I've tried to explain this to you numerous times lol I'm trying to save you from the ebay fees when you inevitably sell it to buy a Vive when you realize that for once I was right :p

Oh and as for people who don't get it, that's why you have us. ;)

I get the same reaction when anyone comes over
"hey mate, how is it goi..... whats that ?"
"oh , its my ...." that's as far as I get until I am shoved out of the way and they are miraculously sitting in my rig as if they were born to it.

as long as I remember to remind them ( again and again ) that the wheel is not bloody load bearing! when they eventually have to get up lol.

Almost replaced enough of my current rig to build a second one so eventually should be able to do racing LAN gaming as well as just "normal" games.

the secret ? have friends that are as geeky as you are :p

jk again. but really let's sit down ....

I am dragging my feet on giving them both a try. We'll see after that haha. I learned there's also an oculus demo nearby so I should be able to give them both a fair chance.
