Who goes to LAN Parties?!?

[LeJerk]

Don't be shy. Tell me about it here, there's a REASON I'm asking. *wink* *wink*

I used to go to a LAN Party about 3 times a year but haven't gone for a while now mostly because they were disorganized and I didn't particularly like some of the new people they invited.

Being in a confined place it's really important you get along with everyone or the night drags on forever.

Was it themed? Did you play one a certain type of game there? Were there sponsors?

No nothing that extravagant.

It simply started out as 4 of us getting together and playing games that work well in a LAN environment and give some variety. I think the most popular games were Half Life 2 Death Match and Dirt 2.

I think ArmA2 would be a really good LAN game but I don't know a lot of gamers who have the patience to do anything other than button mash.

By the time I stopped going there were about 8 guys showing up and I gotta tell you, I don't enjoy being in the same room as 7 other sweaty guys lol. You really need a big open space with a lot of airflow and enough room to maneuver your way to the beer fridge

Been to a number of them. Even helped a friend convert his garage into a lan party room with CAT5, power outlets, A/C, walled up the garage door. Made enough room for 30 people. It was a blast the 3 or 4 times I went after we built it. Then the internet and WOLF took my interest. Now I'm not interested dragging my box out of the house. Maybe if I had a sweet gaming laptop, but I doubt it. There was some good Rainbow 6, Counter Strike times had.

Here's a picture of one that I went to. The date is November of 2005!

There were a lot of people there. It didn't have a specific game everyone was playing. Some people were holed up on one side playing WoW (before I even played it for the first time). Most people were playing Battlefield 2... and whatever else was out. Unreal Tournament? Counter-Strike: Source too I think.

I actually won the mouse pad I still use today there in a BF2 tournament. It's a Func F30.R

[Kitlope]

Never been to one and never really had the intention. And why when I can pwn all your sorry asses from the comfort of my own chair?

[LeJerk]

So nobody currently goes or is planning to?

I went to a lot 8 men (well 7 men and me) Diablo 2 LAN Parties mostly combined with some BBQ - once.
I dragged T.T.H. to his first one - we played BF 1942 and UT and Warcraft 3: Tower Defense. The last one we went, were organized by his work colleges.

But with Guild Wars around 2005 we stopped doing that (Diablo 3 didn't bring back the LAN Parties either). Like Engnr said: "not interested dragging my box out of the house".

I started this thread because I have an Antec LANPal I want to give away for free! (International shipping extra)

But since nobody actually goes to LAN parties...
