Who's signed up for the Battlefield 1 Beta?

So who's signed up for the Battlefield 1 Beta and what's your planned play schedule during this time?

Assuming there's no NDA (which I can't see there being one) I'll be streaming it at least Tues and Thurs and possibly one of my iRacing nights such as Mon or Wed.

It would be nice if we could fill at least one Squad nightly with B2O players, perhaps bring in some new ones from Twitch as well.

I will probably download it for shits and giggles. If anything to see how game play would really even work in a ww1 game.

Apparently from all I've seen it's done pretty well and most of the gameplay seems solid. Of course this being Battlefield, EA/Dice took some "liberties" when it comes to weapons, vehicles, etc., but that's to be expected from this series.

I'm very curious to see how the changes to Conquest work out. Personally I'm in the camp that thinks nothing was wrong with Conquest the way it was so changing up one of the core game modes in Battlefield will be interesting to see.

Apparently though Conquest is now designed to entice people to PTFO so maybe it'll be a lot busier around flags this time around, we'll see.

I've signed up and will be playing. I can't see how it's going to feel anything different than a WW1 mod but I'm more than happy to be proven wrong!

I'm just grumpy because they won't re-make 1942 with a modern engine. Hmmpf.

But, you know, horses, so there's that. CHAAAAAAAAAAARGE!

Question: Where do you even sign up? I've looked for the page but I just get a page that says when the beta will start.

my concern is that I've never thought WW1 would have made for a good game. WW2 at least there were modern capable vehicles. But WW1 seems like an awkward war to make into a fun game. I'll reserve final judgement until I have a chance to play it. Chances are Titanfall 2 will take priority over dis seeing as there is only a week between each games launch.

You need to be a Battlefield Insider to get a BETA key afaik: https://www.battlefield.com/community/insider

Remember this is EA/Dice so even though it will probably release buggier than h3ll, there is no doubt that it will be action packed. Personally I like the WW1 theme because it's not been exploited like WWII was and most recently Modern Combat and near future combat.

I think this will be a refreshing change.

...at least I hope it is.

Perfect thanks.

I think the important question for me is: Are there remote explosives and can I place them on a horse?

lol, There's always Verdun (http://store.steampowered.com/app/242860/) if BF1 turns out to be rubbish. I'm really going to give it a fair chance though as I appreciate them at least trying to do something different.
Ya but it's not Battlefield.

Love it or hate it you have to admit that the Battlefield franchise is pretty unique in its approach to making everything killable by everything else given the right conditions.

It's pacing is also pretty good and isn't heavily into just one type of twitch reflex dependent play style. I think the series mixes gameply up pretty well for the most part.

I seem to recall watching a video with LevelCap where TNT and a remote detonator were used, can't remember for sure.

Horses are actually a concern because horses are fleshy creatures so I hope they go down quickly. I think they should take longer to kill but not a lot longer than a human should.

Ok, played a bit today, I was wrong. It's not BF4 with WW1 skins, it's Star Wars Battlefront with WW1 Skins. Whether that's a good or bad thing depends on if you liked Battlefront, but it's very similar in feel, graphical presentation and audio, even the UI and menus are almost identical.

Never played Battlefront but that doesn't sound overly promising considering how well it was received.

I'm going to reserve judgement until I actually play.

Don't let the Battlefront reference scare you off ID, I think there's a lot of differences as well. I know spotting has been overhauled, there will be bullet drop, and there are no Hero's this time around nor is there 3rd person view (at least I've seen no gameplay with it).

I didn't buy Battlefront but I did play the BETA and I don't remember there being destructibility in it either. Afaik, most if not all buildings are destructible in BF1.

It's going to look and feel the same as it's the next Battlefield game powered by the Frostbite engine. The way EA is churning this series out on a 2 year rotational basis you can pretty much expect each iteration will feel similar to the previous one.

Oh I liked Battlefront so it's not meant to discourage anyone. It's the UI and the HUD and well, the "feel" of it that is similar to Battlefront. But like you say it's the frostbite engine so what you gonna do.

re: destructible buildings, I was actually thinking today as I was going about my business "man I miss the days of destructible buildings from Bad Company" as when I played earlier all the buildings seemed unaffected by heavy ordnance. Maybe that's because it was a Beta? I don't know. I didn't see any destruction though.

These are only first impressions, I'm looking forward to playing it a lot more later. It just surprised me when I loaded up the conquest mode (1 map in the Beta) it looked like they had directly ripped the map assets out of the Battlefront Tattoine level. It was weird to see Biplanes dogfighting above me and some dude come charging past on a horse as it really felt like I would be seeing a Stormtrooper coming at me in that moment...

I really, really hope there is more to it than what I have seen so far. I'm bloody praying for a good WW1 game (so they can mod it to WW2 of course)!

The map they were playing in the Closed Alpha was nearly completely destructible so I assumed that would carry forward. The other thing that's really cool is the terrain deformation as it really changes up the battle from what I've seen.

I'll be playing tonight and definitely share my impressions after a through play through. The Battlefield has had it's ups and downs but when it's good, it's really good.

After the disastrous release (and first year) of BF4 and then the horribly underwhelming presence of Battlefront I'm hoping that EA/Dice has learned something and is trying to give us the best BF possible.

It was available as of 7am GMT. I'm going to log back in and see if I can blow anything up then!

EDIT: Ok, a Heavy Tank definitely does the trick. This game is actually pretty bloody good!

You should be able to take that tank and drive through most of the buildings. The nice thing is you can get caught up on parts of them as they don't just smash to pieces in front of you.

You can quite literally flatten a building without ever firing a shot I think.
