My couple year old asus laptop is also running win10 now, zero issues. Dunno what I expected but it's exactly the same with a new task bar.

Just checked on one of the servers here and apparently that got updated to 10 without me noticing it.(from 8)

I do have to say this looks and feels pretty solid for something made by M$.
Even networking with an xp based machine works flawless.
But tbh, no difference in speed or anything.

I'll watch the cat out of the tree as we would say in Dutchieland. In other words, i'll wait a little bit before the dust has settled.

To those that have switched to Windows 10; Microsoft has turned on a lot of 'strange' settings by default. For instance, Windows will use your bandwidth to share Windows Updates with others: http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2015/07/30/windows-10-steals-your-bandwidth-to-send-other-people-updates

Some other 'interesting' settings can be found here: https://jonathan.porta.codes/2015/07/30/windows-10-seems-to-have-some-scary-privacy-defaults

Love the picture Quick. Very disturbing features that they've got on there.... a keylogger... a malware and antvirus software that if you turn of, they'll turn back on for you...

Especially love the interspersed quotes...

That was a good read, thanks Daunt!

Still i don't think i'm upgrading soon myself.
I mean, why should i go through the hassle of ensuring my privacy when i pay for something to use in a private enviroment.

It just seems to be like the Batman beacon when you boot up your windows 10 based system. But instead of the bat you see your personal details projected for the entire city to see.

I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade. I kinda regret it. I've lost control of things that you used to have full control of. I hardly feel like the computer's admin... there are a lot of things running in the background that I cannot even remove or disable, after scouring settings.

Cortana, even disabled, still runs in the background, unless I missed another setting. There's a process called shell experience that I cannot get to stop waking my computer from sleep. There's a few other tasks I've tried ending and it tells me straight up that I am not allowed to end it. You used to be able to disable certain windows features to save memory, like the search indexer, with a simple check box. I can't end the process either, it won't let me.

Something is constantly reading my hard drive, even at complete idle so it's always making that annoying read/write noise. Anyone have any software that may help pinpoint that, or help with hard drive management?

It's not getting better; Windows 10 end user agreement has been updated and now contains this:

"We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorised hardware peripheral devices,"
In other words, Windows 10 can and will check your software, and appearantly hardware, and can disable it if they think its not legal or whatever they think is wrong with it.

So this not only means that microsoft can reach onto your computer to disable software, and even hardware, it also means your pc will be even busier with constantly checking if anything you have installed is legal enough to microsofts taste....

This is definately becoming Windows; Big Microsoft is watching you.

I just saw this article as well... unbelievably ridiculous. What happens when you are running an older version of a game you play, because of a mod. Or what happens when you just mod a game?

It may be time to grab my Windows 7 CD to fix this issue.

So I've been just OK with Windows 10 thus far. I don't mind it but there are some things that it does that really annoy the hell outta me.

Well last night I ran a race at Oulton and a few laps in second about a third or two behind second, Windows 10 HAD to open up a window to notify me that it was unable to install an update (or certain updates, I'm not sure).

I hastily scrambled to get my mouse to click away from it (currently in the Arcade Simpit it's difficult as I don't have a flat surface right now to really use it on) and it wouldn't let me click on a different window (the iRacing window right behind it). So I was forced to click the more info button (only thing I could click) which closes it and opens up the update center or whatever window.

I don't effing care. Fucking Windows 10. This is literally occurring while I'm going downhill from turn 2 into the Cascades turn 3; I'm coasting, trying to keep the wheel at least somewhat centered as I cut across turn 2 on the inside, not braking, in between two fast cars, can't see a thing.

Thankfully I was able to bring iRacing back to the front, but fuck. I ended up finished 3rd so no harm. But if I were in the middle of one of the chicanes or in heavier traffic, it would've been absolutely terrible. I need to look into this further.

Anyone else have this sort of shit happen?

Thank you so much Johnny. I will try this. ANYTHING is better than having something pop up right in front of me while I'm in the middle of a race.

I'm lucky I was able to control the car and keep racing afterward, not having crashed but I was pissed.
