I'm off to see the galaxy ma!

So, I need a break from trading for a little while. I've traded my way to a grand sum of 58M CR and my beloved Clipper, and it's time to mothball H.M.S. Bodacious.

I have sunk a considerable sum of CR into my new ship - H.M.S. Indagator.

She's kitted out for exploration, with a 32T fuel tank, and A6 fuel scoop to fill the tank in seconds. Where I'm going there won't be any stations to dock for fuel and repairs, hence the fuel scoop and the two AFM units. One to be brought online to repair modules, and another to be brought online to repair the first AFM unit when it inevitably wears out. Both these will be kept offline until needed at which time I can take my shields offline to provide power. This means I can keep as many modules D rated for maximum lightness. Any A rated components I have fitted do not decrease range. Anything else is D rated. Jump range is currently a healthy 31.27 LY.

The only compromise I have accepted with range is to arm her to the teeth. I won't be running from any interdictions. If they want a fight, I'll give it to them. With two pulse lasers and four burst lasers along with a full suite of countermeasures they will regret spooling up their FSD interdictor.

So, it's off into the great unknown for me, I'm hoping to find at least one "Earth like world", and I will be heading out to the edge of the galaxy in no particular direction. The only guide I have given myself is I will be gone for one to two weeks, next Sunday or the one after I will turn back and hand in the exploration data. If I get first discoverer on any celestial objects that will be a bonus too. I aim to swing by Earth to say hello to home, and dock at Galileo station orbiting the Moon. This is the only reason I have the docking computer (now it has been fixed and works properly) fitted, as when I reach Galileo station I will pour myself a cold one and sit back to take in the view listening to the Blue Danube Waltz with a smile on my face having made it back safely.

The Asp is kitted out with 50M+ CR worth of equipment, and I have enough for insurance and some spare change for emergency space takeaways.

Now, off unto the unknown. Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.

(I'll be taking pictures as I go, next update I'll include some).

Have a safe trip little P, may you come back only a little older and a lot wiser.

My guess is only the first will be true though.

Remember, Black Holes are harmless, it's the twin white giants that will send you home!

lol Duke.

Nice p. I'm getting an itch to set out across the galaxy myself, but my 4 million won't get me very far- yet.

lol thanks CMDR's.

Well, last night I fully scanned three systems. Interdicted three times, one Adder, one Eagle, and one Federal Dropship... I've decided I'm going to head to the Pleiades Nebula (the easiest to see from Earth with the naked eye), specifically to a system named Maia.

M45map.jpg

It's the fourth biggest star in the Nebula, and according to the galaxy map it is home to a black hole, which I've yet to see.

So, my mission is set. I'm off to discover a black hole, and scan every system along the way. I've seen some beautiful sights already, Elite really shows you what it's got when you venture off the beaten path. And it is very humbling to know that the Nebula that is a tiny little smudge on my screen at the moment is the one I'm heading right into the heart of. I must say exploration is an incredibly relaxing experience, just what I needed at the moment. Luvvly Jubbly.

Here's the encounter with the Dropship, in it's first true test I'm pleased to report the Asp more than held it's own.

No, but he did make a nice "pop" noise after a few seconds from the laser banks :)

I'm at 97% Hull so far, and I've used up 80% of my first AFM module, and 10% of my backup... I'm two systems away from my first target system, not seen any stations or civilization for a while now. Anarchy space is just that, scanning an Anarchy system I got interdicted five times and the Asp held her own, but took some heavy damage. Every interdiction is a squeaky bum moment this far out...

Getting close to the Nebula...

Pictures cannot convey how unnerving it was getting this close to a Black Hole...

Home safe and sound, interdicted 12 times on this journey, not too much trouble really. And, I got what I wanted which is not just a star but an entire system with my name on it forever more :) And it's full of pink lol

Welcome back from your Journey :)

My first large Exploration trip was to the seven sisters /pleiades Nebula :) To see Maia etc.

I did it in my Clipper and I plan to keep exploring in her.I can rig her to around 20ly a jump with everything I need in her, so Dont see the need for an ASP (if anything I plan to go toward the center where jump distance should be less) Clipper just gives me more systems to scan on the way :)

Did you sell the exploration data yet?
If not hold on to it for a couple of hours as the next update increases rewards for that.

Yeah sold it already, never mind, I'll be heading to the Witch Head Nebula for the next exploration journey. The centre of the Galaxy is on my to-do list as well indeed Laursen, you sure do love your Clipper eh :) I'm back in mine now, missed it too much :icon_cool:

Yes I do love it.

Its brilliant at Trading (232 with A4 shields) Its brilliant for combat (2x large weapons + 2x medium) its fast as hell and it can jump at least 20 light years even with a lot stuff installed (like weapons and powerful shields) which in my book is good enough for most exploring. I like exploring in style and not in a big ironbucket :p Granted the ASP has nice cockpit but so does the clipper!

oh and its so damn pretty I cant get out of bloody dev cam to actually play the game :O Every ship in elite is cool and very detailed but only 2 (so far) are nice looking the Clipper and the Orca........and im not flying a scoolbuss...even though it DOES look like a sportscar!

every other current spaceship in ED is so....industrial...I know you dont need aaerodynamics in Space but at least do something about the looks :p

only problems with it I have is
1. No bumberstickers or paintworks
2. It cant land at outposts

Oh yeah i fully agree with that, you'd expect some futuristic designs and all you get is an old frontloader with thrusters attached to it.

I sure hope they come up with some more "smooth" designs like the orca, clipper and fer-de-lame.

I guess that's the influence of the first elite... I don't mind the industrial look for the transports though, seems fitting for that role :)

Well, I think it's time I headed out into the infinite void. I've got my 30ly kitted Asp, a full tank of gas and my compass. I'll either come back rich, dead, or a pirate driven insane by the madness of deep space. I'm betting on #3. BYE!

Cute little star ya found, there. We should put together a list if we find really notable systems... maybe really picturesque or strange/different. I know I've found a couple that the stars are really close to one another it makes for really interesting viewing, etc.

Find any / many earth-like planets?

So I'm a bonehead. I got ~1000LY out and realized I installed a class 2 fuel scoop. On an Asp. I'm tediously making my way back to civilization now to fix it and tweak my loadout.
