Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

I will most likely miss tonight as well, will be on next few days.
Is there a tentative line up of sorts? Would like to know if I can ride with you guys (preferably), otherwise, I might go with some league members. You people are more funner though :D

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

I'd like to draw up a tentative schedule so everyone has an idea of when to expect to race during the 24 hours (when their stint will be, etc). Everyone should (if you haven't already) post their available hours, and also preferred driving hours.

I'll try to schedule a driver and a co-driver (backup) for each hour of the race.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

Good idea.

All below in GMT:
My available hours: Sunday, 00:00 - 13:00 (race end). Possibly earlier.
My preferred hours: Sunday, 00:00 - 02:00, 08:00 - 13:00.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

Here's a first draft I made for the schedule. It's not set in stone yet.

http://www.speakvisually.net/Schedule/index.htm

Please look over it, you need to be almost 100% sure you can be there for both your driver and co-driver (spotter) sessions. In the event of the driver not making it, the co-driver is responsible for driving.

To everyone- please ensure, unless an emergency, that you stay around to spot for the next driver until your replacement shows up.

With a few exceptions, most drivers will start their sitting as the spotter, so as to ease them into it and allow time for warming up.

Early times for eastern (1am-5am) were tough to fill, but I delegated the task to pacific-timers until Noel can sub in at normal morning hours (for him). It's not too bad I think for pacific-ers (until 2 am I believe) but if this is an issue please let me know.

If you have any issues at all with your schedule or the scheduling in general, speak up. If you can't be depended upon, we won't be mad, but it's better to be safe now than to screw your team over.

I realize it looks like i'm being selfish by putting myself for the beginning & end of the race. My availability makes later in the day Sat. and early morning Sun. impossible (Wife's bday) but if someone would like to take over for my last three spots, that's not a problem. That stint starts at 5am for me!

EDIT NOTE: Race estimate 820 laps. Equal share would be 117 laps per person (7). Fair share is about 30 (rounded up). One hour stint should be about 34 laps.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

I'm actually surprised to see you starting the race lol, I thought you were dead set against it after Brands Hatch.

I'm good for my stints.

BTW, it's PST not PT ;)

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

If needed, I can do stints later after midnight EST. If it makes it easier on guys.
Daunt, is there anyone else interested that would fill my slot? I like what you have there and would like to participate, but considering I've done it before, if any new guys would like it instead, by all means. Otherwise, I'm in.

And remember 10-15 minute warmup on start.
Who's qualifying the team? Probably the first driver should do it?

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

Another thing to consider, the splits are based on the person's irating who registers the team, correct? If that's the case, are we fine with midsplits if Kyle registers us or should Noel or someone with a higher iRating register to go for the top split?

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

Qualifying is infinite throughout the week. If there are no objections I would like to try qualifying because it's part of the fun of the race, even though I won't be starting the race.

I can most likely register though, that should get us into at least the 2nd split. The problem I see with the lower splits is that there might be too many drivers not in control of their car. That would not be bad if we could leave them behind us or in front of us but it applies to C7s as well, which are going to pass us lots of times.

The argument against a high split is that the top teams will be at a much higher pace, but the C7's will be at a much higher pace regardless. They will be more competitive though in the top split and will probably be less patient when lapping people. Also, we could be broadcast :)

The schedule looks nice so far Kyle!

To dino: Unless you don't want to particpate, in which case we should be able to fill in your slots and no hard feelings, you are perfectly welcome to join us.

I'm glad everyone likes it thus far. Just need to make sure Quadro and Zac are on board.

As for splits and quali, go for it Noel. the benefits of a higher split outweigh the downsides.. I'd much rather be driving with good or even better drivers (for the most part). If you're sure about quali and being able to do it through the week.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

Are you sure that you should be qualifying then Noel if you're not starting the race? Sorry but you're going to be in front of people you can't keep up with Kyle and a roadblock to faster drivers.

This does not sound like a terribly good idea to me lol.

It works in League because we know each other but T1 at Daytona Road, sketchy.

Good luck but I don't like this plan personally.

Can we start posting setups? I know Dino shared what you guys used but can you post it here? I may have changed some stuff so better to be safe.

I am then going with you guys, I just figured to let newer guys get the experience if they wished.
For qualy, starting driver should do it for his own sake, but if Noel can register us, it'd most likely put is in top split as I doubt it'll be more than 4-5 splits and drivers will be condensed in large teams. And broadcast by screaming Brit.

I think if Noel qualifies we should either have Noel start (Which I'm pretty sure he can't make the start if I remember correctly) or we should start from the pits. Being in that much faster traffic doesn't seem like a good idea, especially with cold tire C7's up front that might need to be dodged in turn 1 adding to the mess.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

Updated Peebles OP to include link to schedule.

Normally I hate starting from the pits, but in this case it might not be a bad idea at all. I'm sure we'll be far from the only ones doing so as well. I'm not opposed to it.

It still probably needs some work but it seems relatively stable at wing 1 or 2.
I got pretty used to running wing 1. My concern is the tires... and it doesn't feel like it's a wear issue. They start to feel like mush pretty fast and then the car slides through corners. The setup understeers like crazy but it seems to understeer even worse as time goes on. I seem to have pretty good lap times but could be better. Granted I've not yet been able to do a full stint (only practice at Daytona thus far has been a few hours last night). Any advice?

Also, Noel, if you could post a hotlap video on youtube that would be awesome. I'd like to do a bit of comparing.

Might just be a style of driving, but I personally got used to the way it drives. Seems like you'd need to be on throttle much much earlier than other GT3 to get it to rotate. Just a little bit at first and roll on as you exit. Tires shouldn't degrade noticably until about 3/4 way into the stint, if they do, drive gentler. We're driving to finish.

Pit start might be a viable idea, even if it puts us in T2 hairpin-mess with slower guys. It worked for us in Spa, albeit unwillingly due to tech issue.

Re: Daytona 24 B2O team?

It's tough to explain because what I feel isn't the normal sliding under acceleration or when I need grip. It's mid-turn mushyness that keeps it sliding and understeering when it should be rotating and I feel like I should be ready to get on the throttle. Perhaps I just need to brake a little bit better and be more patient through a few of the turns. Mainly turn 5.

I really don't think the tires are degrading they just don't feel right. I'll have to give a full stint ago without any traffic maybe tonight.
