Do you still have your gear?

My guess is that there is still db work being done because every time I login, my vehicle is gone.

Guys, if you're still messing with the db, can you please advise us as to when the work will be complete?
The work more than likely will never be complete, things area always going to need adjusted and updated. Fairly sure we've now got the vehicles the way we want them for advertising purposes, so not fore-seeing any database corruption we should be OK and good-to-go on that end of things.

We're looking on adding some additional custom anti-cheat in the next few days, more than likely tomorrow. We had our first known-hacker in the server yesterday teleporting himself around so clearly our current level of protection is not enough.

Just a small hint to whoever edits the server, dont do it directly on the server, but set up a local server and edit it local so you can let the main server run and upload your update on server restarts so there is no additonal downtime.

Im sure the work on a Arma/dayz server is never done but it can be limited to maintenance/updates that don't cause loss of data.

Also about that cheater, i was talking to D.O.A. the other night about the time desync going on i said this was so bad it most likely was caused by a teleporter/speedscripter.

On the anti cheat thing i can only say...... Our current level of protection will never be enough, the scriptkiddies have so much fun with breaking anti cheat in arma because they know every server/anti cheat will have it's weaknesses, it's just a mather of time before they figure out where it is, and then we start from scratch again....

I agree with Quick on this front and certainly don't want us to get any paid versions of these anti-cheat measures.

One script kiddie does not mean we're about to get inundated with them. Let's get some history of this server running and configured before we make the executive decision to add more to it.

Just give it some time to see if the load increases if not, next formula goes in the mix.

I wasn't saying that I was satisfied. I was more pointing out the fact that theres a lack of Fragtards playing on the server as of late and without that, we're not going to be successful reguardless of what map we run.

And to be brutally honest, if any of you think that the server is suddenly going to be populated and that we're not going to have to sit and play by ourselves or with a very small group of pubbies for a while, you're completely naive. It's going to take weeks to get the server to a point that we're "satisfied" whether we're playing either map.

No it's not going to take weeks on either map, Dayz Chernarus still tops the list at 4152 Servers and more than 80% has an actual playerbase as its just DayZ as we know it without the need to download an additional map.

Taviana has 506 servers and 26 with actual players on and only 3 servers with more than 6 players (Slight overkill on servers imho)
For example something i and others noticed (Slightly different setting tho, but same point)
is that most of the newly created wasteland servers are instantly crowded from day 1.
(With the coming of DayZCommander and sixlauncher supporting Dayz this was also happening because of it being easier to obtain and install the mod)

Most of us gamers are lazy and impatient and therefore dont want to go download huge files on top of another mod.

I bet that if you make it Chernarus with some fancy server side settings you could gain more unique survivors compared to the last 14 days on Tavi.

Dont get me wrong, i like Taviana but if results show it doesn't have the same potential as Chernarus why bother hosting and wasting money on a machine that does nothing else than sucking up air and heating it.

Is it maybe worth trying Chernarus for a bit and see what happens?

To be completely honest, I can't stand Taviana but LOVE Chernarus. I'm also not sure how I feel about all the db modifications because it just makes the game feel easier to play with them.

What got me hooked on DayZ in the beginning was how difficult yet satisfying it was to find even minimal loot and survive for more than just a day. I love finding vehicles and decent guns but I think that should take a huge effort, right now DayZ just feels more like Wasteland to me.

I loved the fact that it took 4 or 5 of us to get a chopper in working condition and were somewhat finicky about ammo/gun usage because losing it usually was a heavy hit to the group.

I'm not griping here so PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't read it as such. I just don't find the experience as satisfying currently as it was the very first time I loaded DayZ.

...and it isn't because I've played a lot of DayZ. It's got more to do with the fact that the survival portion of the game seems to have taken a back seat.

I'm with Quick on this one; Taviana can be a fun map. But, looking at the statistics it's not a map that will attract a lot of crowds. Especially since it requires a big separate download, the big variety of available maps for DayZ and the fact that it's not on the official hive.

If the server has been good as empty for 2/3 weeks, I think it's worth trying something else.

Been talking to D.O.A., Dev and Demo and they also agree with switching it to chernarus.

That means the larger part of the community has spoken :)

Ok, I didn't know about that, but it doesn't really matter. As long as it keeps a few more hackers out.
