24 Hours of Daytona 2021

With the amount of people committed to racing the 24 hour so far, I am going to put myself down for the GTE team in the BMW, that way we have enough people to run the whole event at whichever hours will suit them as well.

Based on the number of drivers we currently have that said they are definitely driving, I think we only have enough for one team. I'll be practicing the BMW because it looks like that is the car we will likely end up in since no one is adverse to it.

Everyone please give these a try for the BMW, the "safe" setup is tiny bit slower than the "unsafe" one but much more forgiving. I am attaching both anyway.
(not my setup)
Is it worth messing about with it to make it go faster? no..... it's good for a 1:42 dead in default weather with not many laps turned and 2 weeks left to get used to it.
Is it worth messing about with to make it easier to drive? sure, if you know what you are doing then knock yourselves out, easier car is a safer car!

I've penciled in the weekend off, but I'd rather do it with a smaller team. If you have enough to fill a 6 car team and 2-3 others want to create a second team. If not, no worries, I'll catch-up with you guys in Feb for Bathurst!

That safe setup feels really good. The default braking setup has me locking the fronts much much less. The whole setup feels stable through an entire fuel tank. It has just enough 6th gear to not bounce off the limiter in draft as well.

I agree with @Brainling, the safe setup works for me. I have been down into the 1:41s in cool sessions. I need to try a warmer session and run a couple of FFSs to see how it behaves, but I think this setup is solid and stable.

Nejt and I just ran a session with the proper date/time/weather for the actual race and my best lap was 1:42.5 which makes sense for the weather. For reference in that cool session last night my best lap was a 1:41.2. That session was way too cool, at least for day running. Night time may be near those temps but there will be a lot more rubber on track during those times than we're seeing in these cool practice sessions.

The 'safe' setup feels pretty good however, after about 20 laps or so I'm only good enough for 1:42s at night time (26C) without draft; so I need some serious practice to make up the approx. 1-sec deficit.

Just ran a FFS on the minimum downforce set. Im consistent mid 42's. Set felt good all the way through, a little scary coming off the banking but manageable for sure.

I ran a test session yesterday to compare the three setups, minimum down force, VRS nonsafe and VRS safe. The weather was very warm, track temp of 131 F, but I wanted to test in what could be the worse conditions. I found the minimum downforce setup to be difficult to manage in turn 1. Was okay in the bus stop, breaking early, but I was faster in the VRS nonsafe setup and, of course, slowest in the VRS safe setup, although it is very stable. I will try them again in the more moderate weather, but I'm leaning toward the VRS unsafe setup over the minimum downforce.
