Fixed vs Open: I like to run a bunch of different series, sometimes 4 in a given week. To be competitive in an open series AT LEAST 2-3 hours of dedicated setup and testing time. To be fair, if it is following the series, setups can be found ... on a new track though learning the intimacies of a track wile setting up will probably put someone 2 laps down and frustrate them. just my 2 cents
I did run in an oval league where the superspeedways were fixed setup to level some of the field. Maybe allow certain races to be open where setup is more about making the car suited to a driving style?
Ran some limited time with the group at Monza, enjoyed the camaraderie. Looking forward to racing.
noteworthy - I picked up 4 seconds in the session with a shared setup that was drivable and could then concentrate on making up time with my driving line.
I was still 4 seconds off the pace, but an hour in and with not having run the car at that track. For someone who is not a regular of the BP Series, being 3-5 seconds off of the pace is probably going to be the norm.
