Oh nice, but they say they will continue developing the current mod so will they also develop the standalone game linear to the mod so we have to have 2 copies?

Btw, i just heard Mosquito saying in the office that he might be getting ArmA2:CO :)

I'm still waiting for details but my guess is they will continue to develop the current mod on the ArmA2 platform to work out the bugs and then port over to the ArmA3 Engine.

The answer to that question is on the announcement tumblr site thing :

Development and updates of the mod will continue parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to do so.

Very good and logical choice to go with the ArmA 3 engine. Hopefully he won't be limited in what he's allowed to do with it. Will be interesting to see if he's able/permitted to release it with the new engine before ArmA 3 comes out.

I'd say yes. The game will run on a new version of the current game engine and they'll be having (I assume) full control over it. But still, no matter what game.. there will always be cheaters or hackers. Even with a big game like Battlefield 3 there's a lot of hackers out there, which they can't seem to get a control over.

Will there be less hacking?
There won't be less hacking attempts I'm sure but as a stand alone it apparently is easier to secure than just a mod running piggy back on an existing game.

Of course this is all speculation at this point. I'm sure we'll still see hackers even on the new engine. BIS is not known for running secure anything especially on an engine that accepts, recognizes and executes simple text files in .sqf and .sqs formats.

Here is a list of all scripting commands that the Engine recognizes as of ArmA2:

...that list will likely expand a fair amount for ArmA 3.

Emphasis mine.

So it seems it is confirmed the standalone game will use the new engine.
I'm so glad BIS licensed the game for DayZ because it will only help both games in the long run.

DayZ will have it's restrictions removed and allow the devs to complete their vision while at the same time help bug squash the VR Engine with a Beta Team over 1,000,000 users strong and growing.

I for one would love to see BIS leap on the scene as a Game Developer because their ground-pounder Sims are a cut above the rest.

...not to mention they have one of the most helpful Modding Communities of any I've ever seen.

- a few n00bs of course.
