Elite: Dangerous 1.2.0.3 changelog.

Disclaimer: I dont pvp I only fight npcs. and with my current setup I have had no problems with ANYTHING i encountered except an Elite Annaconda on a assasination mission.........and thats basically because im a shitty pilot :p

I have 2x class 3 Gimballed Beam lasers and 2 x class 2 multi canons.

I know the rumor that clipper suck in combat but the real "issue" is mostly with fixed weapons. If you use gimballed or turrets (never tried those) it is a lot better.

class 3 beams removes shields of most in seconds :)

I just made the switch to a vulture and at first it seemed i made the wrong choice with just the 2 large hardpoints and slow speed but that thing is a tank!

Sadly the system we're in for the community goal does sell the vulture but the outfitting only has downgrades for it.
Currently i'm flying with an upgraded power plant, shieldgen, and power distri.
The power distributor worked wonders tho, pretty gaint step forward as my weapons and systems can both be powered without running out of juice.

Didn't get around to try any other module updates but as soon as i got some decent money build up from the warzone i'll head out to a hi-tec station/system.

And considering the rebuy is like a 600% increase compared to the Viper i might need to remove "boost killing" from my strategy list :)

@Laursen, I wasn't smoking this time ;-) i actually fel asleep with everything still running :)

Sure you can, i've done my "business" in Khremainn mostly.
There's a RES right next to a station called Volta and if i remember correctly there are 2 more RES's in that system.
So depending on the time of day, you should be able to hunt during the "light" periods

Seeing the planets actually move i can't tell you for sure which RES is in the light or dark part of the ring.
The easiest would be to fly towards a ring and see if it's light at the beacon.

Currently i shipped me and my bum to Lugh to support the federales in the community mission.
As far as i know Jeff, Daunt, Skrew, Ben and Coffinspire are all there.
And so far everyone of them seems to have participated enough to gain Millions at the end of the event.

Is that where everyone is sleazing around? Lugh? I'm thinking about packing up and leaving Zaonce.

Lugh is currently the center of a community driven warzone, it's supposed to last 2 weeks if i may believe the ingame mission timer.

After that it might change to another system as the community goals tend to not happen in the same system over and over.

What i like most about these missions is that they last so long.
So when you want to go out and do something else that won't be a problem.

I was actually thinking of moving to a system that has the 3 major factions around it so the trip to redeem your bounty is actually worth it.

Combat in Elite: Dangerous sure is fun but I think now it's just a bit too easy to make big money fast. I made close to 2 million credits today in the same time it would have taken to make a few hundred thousand in trading.

Of course I'm not complaining because it's easy money for now but I fear the long term effects may just turn the Universe into one big warzone as everyone will be able to ship up that much quicker.

Oh well, a little bit more of this then I'm off to explore some and find a Pristine Mining Site. I managed to find a Rich Mining Site but it was minerals instead of metals and there were no stations buying that were close by.

As long as you can make 2-3 mill an hour trading in a clipper and double that in a t9 I don't think a few mill is too much

how long where you doing it?

do consider that one thing is the ships but the major price is the upgrades

if I want a really nice kittet clipper I can easily spend 150m credits

the ship itself is only 22m

a fully outfitter Conda can be up to a billion

Actually, i think it's pretty decent now especially seeing the price for higher tier ships and their upgrades.
If bounties dropped just a bit now it wouldn't even be feasible to fly the Vulture as a pure fighter.

Yeah that was a lot of fun testing out Wings. It worked faultlessly and we were really tearing up the conflict zone. Being able to target your wingman's target and see where they were on the scanner made all the difference. I think we all got well over 100k in bounties from just that one session. Was a hell of a lot fun too!

I think my "windmill" technique was universally acknowledged as "effective"? :icon_lol:

If only they'd retrofit those exploration payouts. I'd be in for a few million. Going to get me a Vulture I think!

Do it! It's not the fastest thing in the sky, but it handles like a dream. Plus, two Class 3 weapons just melt everything.

Pity the poor Eagle or Viper that catches my eye. I usually look for bigger prey, but sometimes it's fun to make the little ones go pop.

I have to imagine now the Vulture is a very logical next step in fighters / bounty hunting from the Viper. I'm eyeing it very closely now.

I think you missed my point almost completely.

The price of everything is quite high regardless of what profession you choose to follow primarily. My point was that the balance is now heavily in favor of combat because anyone can make a lot of fast cash and level up their ships much quicker than any other profession in the game currently.

While it's true you can make a lot of coin in trading with a larger ship, you still had to put in countless hours to afford that ship and it's upgrades.

You don't have to put in near that time in combat now and to be honest, I like the way it was before. I thought the bounties were perfect given the amount of work required but now there horrifically skewed.

As an example, I have a very competent Cobra that if I were to run trading missions would take me many weeks hauling Palladium (exclusively) to afford an ASP.

As it is currently all I need to do is hang around a RES for a few nights and an ASP is quickly within reach.

In fact as of this response I was actually considering an ASP within the next few days and for that reason I won't be doing solo Combat anymore. If you guys want to wing then I'll do what you guys want but solo will no longer be combat focused as its just too easy to get rich quick.

Killing a wing isn't that hard either as all you need do is engage them within reasonably close proximity to the Feds. They engage you and the Feds engage them.

Last night I purposely engaged my first wing and collected bounties on all of them simply because Feds were close by.

It's actually a Turkey shoot now and feels a bit ridiculous imho.

Maybe I'm a grinder or something, I don't know? I just liked the fact it felt like work to collect a Bounty and now if feels like child's play.

My initial point was that if I can level up that much quicker then anyone can. It almost negates any reason for most to do anything other than to park a RES and buy large quickly.

Actually, i think it's pretty decent now especially seeing the price for higher tier ships and their upgrades.
If bounties dropped just a bit now it wouldn't even be feasible to fly the Vulture as a pure fighter.
If you were Wanted would you carelessly fly into a RES knowing that you're going to be owned by Feds and Players alike?

No, you wouldn't.

...but that's what's happening currently and it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Right now credits are literally being thrown at us and am I the only one who thinks it's just too easy to get rich quick?

Anyway, I'm not complaining because I've taken advantage of it myself but my worry is it will skew the balance of this game toward a combat driven experience.

For most it just makes more sense to do what pays the most quickly and currently combat is the only way to do so.

Probably I dont understand your point as you said

But personally I dont have a problem with combat earning a few millions an hour. I belive (like many others) That Trading, combat and exploring should be equal ways of making credits.

I went the hauler-> cobra->Asp->t7-> clipper way basically only doing Trading. With the Cobra I made a million an hour Trading rares which from then it just went up the bigger ship I got...I dont think its fair that only traders can get the big ships.

You can make more money than you can hauling commodities between stations, yes. But that's not the most profitable trading for small ships. I think you can still make more running an optimized rare goods route. But that's boring and I'd rather spend my time giving fools the BZZZZZZZZZZT.

I love that they have ships that will take A LOT of grinding to get to, personally. The issue has been there's been nothing in between. With the Vulture and a couple other ships there's some middle ground finally.

I think now Duke is right, combat does have a slight edge over the average trader. But I wouldn't call it way out of whack. Exploration still might be lagging...

Does it have an edge over a Type 7 or 9? I was making several million an hour space trucking when I had a Type 7.

It is tough to determine how perfectly balanced it really is. Some people have honed their trade route perfectly and can make a ton, sometimes all I find at a resource point is sidewinders. I don't have a ship that compares to a Type 7 or 9 yet so I'd expect to make less. What I do know is the last small balance update was a step in the right direction.

Time vs money making though exploration seems far behind. Though on a similar note, did they make celestial bodies easier to spot from a distance? Before the patch I found it very tough to track down planets using parallax against the background. Now they stick out a bit more I think. Maybe it is just me.
