I had to make a thread in here, and had to name it according to the ED thread naming convention.

Yes I cracked and bought it. I hope to see you among the stars soon!

Been doing it as a test to see how high we can rank in the SERPS ;)

I'm still setting it up so I'll leave my CMDR name here in a few. I'm also bringing on board a RL friend (coffinspire who just registered here) and he's downloading the game today as well.

I only hope I can be as good of a pilot as Little P is when he's drunk.

If you want to be a true space pirate, you have to drink all the rum. That's all I have to say in my defence m'lud

Good to have you on board Daunt, see you in Space. I'll be the one in the ship limping back to dock with bits falling off it

First of many questions... there is so much to take in... amazing so far though.

I had some sort of mission that required me to bring robotics to the station I was currently at. The only thing I could find in order to even see where robotics would be is in the star map under trade routes I think. I found a nearby (14 ly) system that was exporting it and was going to go there but it took 80 some jumps so i said F that. Would I normally head there to grab them? I don't think my mission even specified how much to bring.

Follow up question, I haven't really even looked for the function, but how am I able to see if a station has certain services, especially a commodity market?

I wish i could help you, but seeing i bumped into the same issues when starting with trading, i switched to bounty hunting instead.

Wasn't Shilka the one who had a list of which type of station has what services.

Yeah I haven't looked too hard but compared to the other professions, there wasn't a lot of documentation on how to get started in the carebear regard.

Actually I was a bit surprised at how straightfoward the tutorials were, but then I hit a brick wall as soon as I actually played the game. The tutorials need improving, mainly stitching everything together, but especially economy and bounty hunting (job related) tutorials, getting around etc.

To be honest, I had no idea how to play with my friend and how groups worked. That took us 20 minutes to figure out. I still don't know how to access the comms or info panels at the top. He couldn't type to me for some reason. Any help explaining that... especially access the comms and setting up it up so we can chat, and share missions, etc. And also the info panel, how to use it. Thanks

Depending on the Commodity you may have to jump 20+ Light Years to find what the Station needs. I typically pass on these missions as they would just take too much effort for too little gain.

It may even be that your ship doesn't have the capacity to jump that far. I've run out of gas between Systems so it's something you need to plan carefully if you're planning on making multiple jumps.

To find which Stations have Commodity Markets all you need do is click on the System in question and view the System Map. Click on each Station within that system to see what they Import and Export.

If you don't have the Systems Map (which oftentimes you won't) you'll have to purchase it for a few hundred credits.

Press 2 and he should be listed there in your friends list. Hit Enter and you'll be given the option of text chat or voice comms.

Another way to look for nearby commodity markets/certain commodities is to go to the commodity screen of the station that you are at, and check at the right side of the list. It will show info like 'imported from/exported to'. Keep in mind though that trade info isn't static, stuff that you could import from a station can dry up, sometimes there isn't enough stock, and sometimes politics can change trade too. This also goes for updates (last update completely changed where you can get/sell slaves for example)

You can also use third party trade sites (see handy links sticky), but keep in mind that any info older then 24-48 hours isn't trustworthy anymore.

So then also, how do you share missions? We went to a system he was supposed to go pew pew things but he couldn't find where to navigate to and since it wasn't my mission I didn't see either.

Does that mean we're not even able to participate in the same missions? Or just that I can't see his mission?
