[GW2] After last BWE before Launch

Just my thoughts about GW2 after the 3rd BWE. First I still don't know the advantages of persistent world. I hate that home server stuff and hope this guesting is going to be easy enough so I can play with my international friends again. I dislike the respawning of every little monster. Especially with my baby around, that causes my to stop playing now and look after him. But I guess you have to get used to getting hit suddenly.

Anyway I had fun this weekend. From the gameplay of GW1 isn't much left and I like the old one better, but I can play with the new one. I guess its just because I fell in love with my Asuran girl. I dislike jumping in games you know (if you can fall down in a game somewhere its sure that I do it*). But she looks funny while doing it and flails her arms.
I am going to play one - as Ranger I guess.

What about you?

For me anyway, I like a persistent world over the old GW1 style. While the developers can more script the content delivery after a while it kind of makes for a boring game because nothing really changes. With a persistent world while sure the mobs might be in the same place, with other people involved in the environment it makes the world feel more alive. I think this is what GW2 is striving for.

I played a Sylvari necromancer from Friday till Sunday. Impression is "hmmmm" as I did neither like the race nor the class.

On sunday noon I started an Asuran warrior, gave him a rifle and... "OH MAN, SERIOUSLY, I TOTALLY OWN THEM, HELL YEAH!" ...it instantly felt great. He dealt damage at range, he dealt damage in melee, he dealt uber damage with his class specific mechanism and he did do all that in chainmail armor, being able to withstand a lot of beating from the enemies. So far I considered the warrior the least interesting class for me but after just that few hours of playtime the warrior rocketed on place #1 or #2 on my personal favourite class list. He is now competing with the engineer for my main character class. In addition the Asura climbed my personal favourite race ladder, too.

I'm starting to really like how simply switching weapons can completely change how a class plays.

Jez doesn't like jumping puzzle's either, they are a bit frustrating with the lag she gets on her computer. I played the Necro and was "meh" also, then the Ranger, was cool, then tried the warrior, na not ready for that yet. Then for an hour before the end of the beta, tried the Ele, oh yea! Could switch between fire and water with a "weapon" swap, so cool.

Need to preorder this game now so I can get into the early launch. Stayed away from beta, want the game to be fresh

Can i preorder it on steam yet ?
According to this source Guild Wars 2 won't be on Steam.

On the other hand Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2 have the best game update mechanism on this planet in my personal opinion.

You should dig out your Guild Wars 1 account and use it when you register Guild Wars 2 on https://register.guildwars2.com/

If you log into Guild Wars 1 until July 31 it will even reserve your Guild Wars 1 character names for you in Guild Wars 2.

Or you just start GW1 with the -image parameter go to work, have a shower, sleep, etc and you have all the new content and stuff. The same works with GW2.

Yup, the "-image" command line parameter is very helpful. More of them here:

GW2: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments

Engnr, I fear there's no way around logging into GW1 to reserve your character names. I suggest you download the client from here...
http://guildwars.com/download
...and then just start it. It will show you how much you have to download, it will not be the whole 4 GB but only the very minimum you need to log in (guild hall ain't that huge...). Another option is, as hexe already mentioned, to download the whole 4 GB of the client while you're away using the "-image" command line parameter. Finally you might try to go to a friend's house who still has GW1 on his harddisc and just log in there once.
