iRacing Enduro Round 1 - Road Atlanta

Yeah, I don't really like that either. The Petit le Mans race was changed to be 10 hours and starts at 13:00 GMT, which means the races fully overlap. So you would need at least 3 drivers per team to run both races.

The license dropped a bit after a major fail last night in the caddy race.

I was running down a guy in front of me who was 1 lap down due to an earlier crash (he stated he'd never finished a race yet due to others trashing his car.)

I followed him for 3 laps and on i think the 4th i was making my move on the back straight when all of a sudden he slammed the brakes about 100m before "his" normal braking point while shouting: i have a blue flag....
Needless to say what happened next i guess but i'll describe it anyway.

As he slammed the brakes about a 100 meters before the green patch (monza back straight) on the left, i smacked right into his arse and killed us both. All he kept saying was i had to because i had a blue flag.

After explaining to him it was only advisory and that he shouldn't come to a complete stop on the race line because no one expects that and even stating it was my own damn mistake and apologizing for it all he had to say was: You clearly don't know the rules so stfu fool...

Back to D2.65 from 2.75 also lot's of wall contact as i strolled back to the pits with steering stuck at full right.

I'll just grind some mazda races to get it up they run every hour anyway.

These low-split races can be annoying. The good thing is that if you do a couple of them and drive consistent then you should be at a safe distance from those noobs in no time, unless you're really unlucky.

Just an update: Arcade is still being worked on as much as I can spare. If it's not in race-able condition by Wednesday night (And I hope it is) then I'm not sure I feel confident enough to race Saturday. Still want me to do two stints Duke?

I do expect it to be raceable by Wed night. I am almost done with the wheel mount and have to figure out the monitor mount.

EDIT: Just to make sure... we're running the 1900 GMT race, correct? At 3pm Eastern?

One thing you can do is join a race in a time frame that isn't particularly busy. If you join a race in a time frame where only 10 or so people are registered you're pretty much guaranteed the n00bs will be far behind you.

It makes for a bit of a boring race because the fast guys are seconds up the road and the slow guys are seconds behind you but it makes for a safe race.

Nah if needed I can drive 2 stints if needed but we're going to need other Drivers committed and soon. I just cannot commit this much time to iRacing given the other endeavors I'm completely ignoring.

Is it 3PM EST or 2PM EST? For some reason I'm under the impression we started at 11 AM PST at Monza.

I have made a fuel thing for the next race (McLaren):
fuel_preview.jpg

It is a chart (well actually 2 charts) that shows which fuel values to hit for at the start of every lap. The first chart assumes you take full fuel every stint until the last stop, at which point you take however much you still need.

The second chart tries to balance it out by taking the minimum amount of fuel each stop.

If anyone has the fuel usage per minute, the fuel capacity and an optimistic lap time I can make one for the BMW as well.

Really sorry again guys. But thank you for the good team spirit. I like the team atmosphere we have going and look forward to racing more (and longer) enduro races with you all. Just maybe I won't race the first stint.

I'll probably race a lot more conservatively. All said and done, I lost .42 SR (no I didn't bounce between levels, either. I was 3.92 and dropped to hard.

Really too bad that your race ended so quickly. But you guys probably preserved Dukes' nerves this way :).

The racing in our split wasn't what I'd call conservative or intelligent at all. Somebody made a video of the start and, as you can see, our McLaren almost didn't make it through either.

Also, we lost a lot of time because of one Ruf. He was driving all over the place, couldn't navigate the chicane almost every lap and eventually crashed himself out. After the race I spoke with some guys who were running a BMW in our split and unsurprisingly they were hit by the same guy and got turned around.

Apart from the scary traffic our stints went pretty well. We did struggle a lot with grip some time into a stint but no disasters happened.

Road Atlanta is an incredibly tough, punishing track. Consistency is extremely difficult.

Where did you finish Noel? Glad it went well for one team at least. That is insane going three wide into turn 1. I see you in the video ducking onto the grass. Great avoidance.

Thanks. We finished 15th the same as were we started. I believe my qualifying lap was pretty good so we lost quite a few positions at the start by being cautious yet a little slow in the traffic. Also, after that crash happened on lap 1 the car that started in position 28 was now directly behind us.

At the end of the race we easily caught up to p18 and were looking like finishing in p17. Fortunately, two cars crashed or otherwise had problems so that was a nice bonus.

Next is Brands Hatch, which is were the BMW will probably shine. It's a great track though and I like to believe it will be less dangerous in the McLaren than Road Atlanta was.

Very good run by Noel in his two stints, showed great awareness in wreck avoidance a few times. We ran more cautiously then we probably should have at the start but I feel that's what kept us on track. I ran slower than Noel (obviously) but was able to keep the car on track with one or two hiccups but was able to have quick recovery's. I lost a few spots in my stint but was able to show some consistency and keep us above water, at least i saved us a bunch of fuel ;). Looking forward to next race just hoping for some more grip.

That's too bad about what happened to you Kyle and team BMW huge bummer. Hope you guys get a break next race!

And Noel thanks for coming up with the fuel spreadsheet. It was pretty much spot on for our race great job on that as well.

Have you noticed the flaw in your blogpost Daunt? :p

Oh and on a side note. I want Bimmer skin, was kinda bragging about the sim and livery... only to show Xitens.nl i was the only one running without their logos xD
