Life is Feudal: Your Own

I'm going to play on other servers.

Frankly I've no interest in playing around in a little Fragtard server that is effectively nothing more than a private playground.

I'll play at Fragtard when it's open to the public.
Your assumptions are wrong, you said you were reading so much about the game but did not read the information available about our server. We've said before that until the game becomes more stable and until there are options to kick/ban/remove griefed objects from the game the server will remain closed with a password.

As Quicksilver pointed out, nobody ever said that the password could not be given out to players you want to have us join and this is what happened in several cases already.

Now the GM commands have been rolled out the option to open up to the public becomes available. For this we will have to discuss on what settings and setup we will be using.

But anyways, you're always free to join and play on other servers, you might also have a better ping there since this server is hosted in France.

I wouldn't mind the server becoming public unless it will hinder our progress. I don't know what anti-grief methods are available in the GM commands but I know that right now we store basically everything in what should eventually be temporary bags to which anyone has access.

If going public means that we regularly have things stolen by people who don't care about being kicked it would make it less fun for me. On the other hand, of course, if we have legitimate ways of setting up reliable protection with the community I think a public server could very well work.

My question is what to do about different communities (or lone wolfs) on the server that want to go to war with each other. Do we allow this or do we not because of the current state of combat? Fighting is of course part of testing but it could also set you back with respect to other parts of the game.

The most important thing to me is that you should be able to work on your skills in relative safety if you choose to not be a threat to others.

Ok, GM commands have been tested and are working. We can remove objects that are built, kick/ban and unban players.

We've agreed to wipe the server and start a new Public server, with a new name :
Band of Others - LiF - www.fragtard.net

This way we already have our new community name and can simply change the website address in the server's name.

We will set up our village a bit as it was on a new spot on the map and will put "abandoned" houses, chests, etc randomly on the map for new public players to find and claim as their own to start with.

I've *learnt* over the years that the less micromanaging of a server, the better.

Indeed, the alignment system should take care of being more safe if you want.

There will be the usual fight without consent from both sides, but that's part of the game. Fighting back will not make you loose alignment since it's considered self defense.

We will only enforce the rules pointed out on our server topic:
-Building objects to obstruct other people's work
-Insulting people (out-of-character and without any reason) in both voice, local and global chat.
-Cheating, hacking and bug-abusing the game

War will be allowed, but seeing that there will be no guilds in the Y.O. version this will all depend on the alignment system and will only happen if a player wants to go down that road.

You should post up here the changes that have been made recently, change logs, etc. for those interested.

We've played it a lot at release of early access but interest went on to different games mostly because of the early state of LiF.

It seems they have been putting up some work on it and it might be worth checking it again soon. I'm sure this will be one great game once it's finished.

lol so you gave it the Little P treatment?
Bought it with the intention to play it with the guys here but the damn Europeans play way outside of when I'm able to play.

In the end, didn't have anyone to play with, and didn't have the patience to find people, so it's sat collecting dust. Lol
