Minecraft Forge Server

Not to be a jerk to Doc, but I can't really play vanilla. Nothing against you or your server, but try as I might, it is missing so much that mods allow. It's like cocaine, and I can't NOT have coke now. Complex things like Industrial Craft 2, or simple but much needed overhauls like RedLogic, which allow better, more expansive uses for redstone.

So if there is interest, I will probably run my Forge server, and I can of course help anyone set it up if they want. It is not difficult and I can walk you through it in a matter of 5-10 minutes.

My server is run from my machine at home, so it won't have 100% up time but again, if there is interest, it will be close to 24/7, with some exceptions. I've ran a continuous server from home before no problem for many players around the world.

I can safely say that a non 24/7 server ain't going to work.
And i guess having 2 separate servers is going to split the playerbase.

I'm with you on the limited technical stuff in MC and all but i don't think putting up a 2nd server would be the solution.

What if you talked to Doc about this and try to come up with a plan?

I'm also pretty sure there's plenty modpacks that have a working server pack included so getting and staying up to date shouldn't be a problem.

It was just an offer really. The people that play modded seem to be outnumbered by vanillers. If there was serious attention to it, getting it up as close to 24/7 (or even getting a server for it) wouldn't be an issue.

Otherwise my fiance and I, and a couple friends I used to play with a while ago will be content to play when we can.

I'd like to hear doc's thoughts though. I don't want to step on any toes and you're right, splitting the playerbase isn't cool.

No worries about stepping on toes, as long as you keep communicating.

I wasn't trying to be pissy or anything, i fully back your idea except for the 2 servers part.

But stil, this is just my view not a "no you can't" :)

Update, we are now running a Forge Server with Buildcraft (couldn't get IC2 to work). Unfortunately we had to start a new world, so my apologies to those of you that had some pretty impressive builds going this past week.

Will update main post here shortly with information on getting connected.

I can help you develop a server if you need to. I have some experience in creating modpaсks assemblies clients and servers, mainly 1.5.2-1.6.4, but the version of the above should not be a problem.

Yup, ever since the switch to Forge modding hasn't been easier.
It's just a matter of copy and pasting jar files that correspond with the Forge/mc version.

Haven't even had to recode anything to get it to work as intended.

I'm pretty sure everyone is open to suggestion so it depends on what everyone wants really.

Applied Energistics 2

Wow that's quite a list of mods there. I think you listed more mods than I had courses getting a Bachelors in network security.

Well def take a look as we go. I know Quick is a modaholoic and I'm slowly becoming one myself. As long as the mods don't cause any issues, I'm open to them.

most industrial mods usually add new ore but it is not a problem, they have a function retrogen (some untouched by players blocks in bowels of earth will be replaced by new ones of mod). and requires a sub-mods (like a Mantle for Tinkers Construct)
just in case better to make a copy before to changes world :)

That list should work tho, most of the mods if not all can work together or even enhance each other.

However i am not sure about gregtech, something was up with that and i can't remember what...@D.O.A. Do you remember what was wrong with it?

Sounds good guys. Lets get a list together and figure out which ones we'd like to add for sure. As an aside, no more dynmap. It had to grown to roughly 2.8 gig of space on the server and had to be removed.

Ah ok, i remember that from other packs. I thought it was part of Mekanism or something similar.

Nothing wrong with it code wise but , Gregtech is a tech based mod that significantly over complicates( a massive understatement , trust me) the way u build machines and progress through the tech tree .
It should only be added if you are a Extremely familiar with modded minecraft .

Ps, no disrespect to all your hard work in setting this MC server up , but if u are going to mess with mods why not get on of the fully modded packs from the ATLauncher ?
I know that , for instance, Resonant Rise 3(as that is the pack i play with the most) is always being worked on and being kept as bug free as possible .
It also has the most wide variety in mods possible so there's , more the likely , something for everyone .
And the best part is , you don't have to go bug hunting/error smashing because its being done by the pack devs .

Anyway ,as i said before , no disrespect to all your hard work , i was just wondering ;) .
