Nice Deb, Rens is one to learn from. He's fast and consistent but when you see his driving it's as if he's not doing anything special. Just cruising around.

@Deb This is a really good animation of various defensive driving techniques and do's and don'ts. He's extremely forgiving of what many would call a double move, and just gives you the reality of racing; Nothing is black and white. There is no such thing as "You need to be this far along side....". Its racing, and everything is fluid.

His very last sentence is great, and I think everyone should have it sticky-noted to their monitor in front of them at all times, whether you're attacking or defending! Every situation you're going to have to know your skill, make a best guess as to how the person racing you is going to drive, and then decide how much you're willing to risk in order to take or defend the position.

@Skid_Marc_ wonderful video as is the rest of this channels "The art of" videos. It really is a dance of awareness. Its also a dance not easily learned due to experience being the only classes. I've been fortunate that a lot of my "race savviness" has carried over from my real-life motocross experience. It was a road paved with bumps and bruises trying to learn the ropes. Although awareness comes much easier in real-life than it does in a simulation (also a dirt bike versus a car where you vision is more limited). Even with the addition of VR.
