Your videos NT illustrate my point perfectly. While there are very swampy and waterlogged areas where your truck can sink to the axles, the entire map should not be so. I've spent 12 hours on the hill and I've seen few areas where the truck won't dig into it's axles (aside from the pavement of course lol).

The other thing of note is that when the undercarriage drags across the mud that area of the road is actually plowed away some leaving banks at the edge of the track that are noticeably higher than the center.

Again it's a small complaint but it would be nice to see it addressed somewhat.

I'm not really asking for a nerf, just a small change in the interests of realism. If you've ever driven on a purely muddy road then you'll know that mud is slick by default and composition is what determines level of grip (such as varying levels of clay content for example).

Roads that tend to have a high gravel content are the gluiest of all and never dig in however my guess is they don't have much in the way of that type of road in some parts of Russia.

That being said, I have watched "The Long Way Round" with Ewen McGregor and Charley Boorman and the Road of Bones certainly had a mix of swampy areas and graveled surfaced roads. Maybe that isn't how all of Russia is but my guess is some of it is that way.

The other thing that would be epic to see is the washboarding that occurs on hills naturally from the chatty nature of tire-spin on stiffer suspension. I've never in my life seen a dirt road that doesn't have that on it somewhere over the course of a hill and it would be a very welcome addition indeed as it certainly challenges hill driving in acceleration, braking and turning.

Really the only reason I bring it up is I grew up around these kinds of roads and road countless miles on my bike across them all the time.

For me at least, it would just add that extra bit of realism and probably make it more challenging than it is currently.
I honestly think this game could develop into a wide variety of different sims. The engine seems versatile enough and Oovee have made a shit ton of money from it.
Couldn't agree more :)

I've seen some washboard roads in the plains map.
Oh, and if you have left some heavy trails in a road, they will actually slowely sink in over a couple of (game) days. Thought that was pretty cool.

BTW, saw one of the developers post that tracked vehicles are confirmed for the game for the future (but they are concentrating on ironing bugs out after release now)

Was playing the river map today and got all my vehicles damaged beyond repair in the river, some of them even got swept away lol. Need to start that map over, lol

Oh f3ck that sounds awesome. I thought I'd noticed roads smoothing out over a few days but chalked that up to my own imagination.

Very nice touch indeed!!!

I'll certainly have to try some of the other maps but so far I really like what I see. My ramblings are not really necessary, more of a wishlist really.

Overall though, I'm very surprised by this game and how polished it is so far.

BTW, do you know if they'll ever look at introducing weather systems?

Shilka

Hardcore
Haven't seen anything about weather, did have some morning fog in the game now and again though. Snow/frost would be cool, where the mud would toughen up, yet roads become more slipperyas well... or where mud would dry during dry days becoming firmer, and mushier during rain.

The streaming river physics are pretty awesome btw, drive a small truck though it with no problem, but the same truck with a trailer and your trailer actually gets swept away. I had a b class with the repair/fuel trailer that got swept away for hundreds of yards untill it washed up ashore...

The water physics are amazingly well done. I even like how the water will drip from your vehicle once you reach dry land, awesome!

I've seen plenty of fog but rain would be nice, also conversely, so would dust. Actually what would be really cool is if the tracks hardened as water drained from them as that makes these roads especially treacherous during dryer months.

Hardened tracks would certainly be a challenge as it would be very hard to steer out of existing tracks. Anyway, love the basegame, and there's plenty of possibilities there.

Would also like to see more objectives, like for example having to resupply the fuel tanks with the (large) cistern from a starter fuel depot, doing regular supplies to a town, hauling flatbeds with forestry equipment to the logging camp before being able to collect logs there, perhaps even operating a buncher feller at the logging camp cutting down trees, stuff like that. Also wouldn't mind a super hardcore mode where you need to manually load up 20 logs instead of those 3 now.

So many possibilities in this game!

Yeah, Ive been checkingout the full game downloads yesterday. I only downloaded the jpg's of the map lay outs so far.. Only other interesting thing I saw was the dumper back for the Zil, already can see myself picking up all rocks that are in the way with the crane and then dumping them withthe zil :p

I've heard that oovee will basicly only work on old russian vehicles when it comes to extra stuff, which would be what I would be looking fo anyway. I'm hoping on future map packs too, though there is some good replayability of the maps as you can try different routes and vary with functions for each truck.

What would be really nice is a Plow or Grader to smoothen out the roads a bit now and then. It would be even better if you couldn't smoothen them flat so you end up with off-camber roads making it exceptionally difficult to drive in a straight line.

The ingame bridges arent that bad after all;

We're not the only ones falling over with long logs;

Having to go from 1+ to 1 gear in the middle of a lake seems realistic too;

What do you mean mud is too thick in the game... BTW love how this guy uses his crane to balance his truck, got to try that!;

These guys are really driving Spintires style, that first dirt/wood bridge is clearly a rip-off from the game! (warning loud music)

In case you may not have noticed, Spintires got an update today ( finally I must say too):

It has already been posted, but here is the list of items included in the update:

- Steering wheel support - Supports all steering wheels
- Bouncing rocks fixed
- Vehicle damage calculation more accurate (higher damage)
- Engine auto start when pressing accelerate
- "Engine stalling" progress bar looks changed
- ESC key (default game menu) can now be assigned/reassigned
- Analog Controller input

- Lobby buttons no longer grey out
- Ingame chat history and scroll
- Multiplayer inter-truck winch pulling improved
- Multiplayer trucks no longer fly through air when connecting

Not everything that was supposed to be in the update has been included - the reason is because some more work is required to finalize them.

Mod support has been postponed as the system that is being created for the core game is a bit more complex and it taking some more time than expected. It was decided to release the update without it rather than to postpone the entire update.

Information on the next update will be posted in due course, this will include the contents of the next update. We hope you will enjoy the new steering wheel support in the mean time.
Also, Spintires is currently 40% off on steam's midweek madness, for those of you interested and not having the game yet ;)

I love this game but I just don't like the external views portion of it. Is there any word on when we'll be able to drive in cabin view?

Shilka

Hardcore
Nope, and wouldn't count on it soon either. I agree though that it would make the game absolutely awesome then!

All I want is drop in/drop out multiplayer. Mod support would also be cool because monster trucks.

Drop in drop out works with friends games already :) monstertrucks can be added but by replacing existing vehicles.

mondo

Oh I've not tried it since you had to be in a game at the start. It just seems a perfect game for monster truck racing or old school British hill climbing.

Super Mod
Well I've just bought it as it's on sale. DAMN YOU STEAM.

How does the co-op work in this, and is anyone around this weekend to give it a go?
