Nice, that looks pretty awesome. I like how everything falls apart into bits and pieces.

Is this game comparable to Elite: Dangerous, or is it something totally different?

Well first off , its in such an early state that i wouldn't call it a full game yet .
As it spread out over modules : Arena Commander for flight and pvp testing , FPS module for ground based combat(like a shooter game) and the soon to be released Persistent Universe module for persistence testing .

As to the Elite comparison ,the way i see it is that Star Citizen is Elite's big brother (well its going to be , early development and all that ;) ) .

Star Citizens scope is going to be much wider then Elite , for instance :
Multi-crewed ships(actual players operating different systems on one ship) . Multiple alien races with fully worked out languages and backgrounds , with which u can interact (in a good or bad way ).
A fully fleshed out single player campaign that , when u finish the story line, drops u in the persistence online universe .
Modding might be available at launch(not sure as there's not a lot of info available on the modding part yet but it has been mentioned by Chris Roberts) .
Several forms of sports u can compete in , one that's already available in the Arena Commander module is the ship racing (players are already competing over the best times and are setting world records:p) , and at pax east yesterday they announced a form of zero-g arena type combat .(if u have seen Enders Game , its exactly like that ) .

And a ton more planned that i cant recall from the top of my head :D .

Yes, one is a real game. The other is a pipe dream funding a private Island for Chris Roberts.

heh a little yes. The number of promises made has become somewhat comical. Still, what is there looks good but I'll buy into it when I see a finished product.

Thats more then reasonable ,and i dont think the devs can ask for much more , and i do appologise for the snarky reply .
Its just that the uninformed cynical attitude(in general) is becoming a very common theme on the interwebs when it comes to SC .

I wish people would read more before posting so they can give a meaningful and thought out reason why they think SC is a scam, all this "wrah! wrah! SCAM!!" shouting is just so pointless and frustrating .

Not directed at your post Mondo , just my frustration with the general attitude on the net ,maybe i just need to take a long vacation to a place where there is no internet :p .

I don't think it's a scam at all but I've been following it (i'm actually a backer from when it first kicked off) and knowing what Roberts is like and the promises made, the constant addition of new and pretty ambitious features with no MMO experience, it's little wonder people do question it. To be honest I find the sort of money people have thrown at for ships more bewildering. One guy associated with my EVE alliance has put something like 5k into it! Certainly worthy of poking some fun at.

I used to not only work in MMOs but also with on the same title as a certain someone who was kind of mentor to Roberts and the similarities are more than just promises about new features. So yes, skeptical but an informed skeptical.

Both Star Citizen and Elite promises a lot of amazing ideas:

Landing on planets with everything it entails like vehicles etc...walking around ships and stations ...player co pilots (yes elite talked about that too) fps in zero gravity (also in elites plans)

I dont worry about it being a scam, both of the designers are Gaming Icons with Elite and Wing commander series behind them.

But I do worry that they cant do it for some reason...I worry they bite on more then they can handle...

there are 3 games that has everything I ever wanted in a Space game .....

Elite
Star Citizen
and No mans sky

I am hoping that at least one of them can pull it off :) ...if all of them do ....wow
