Steam introduces new refund policy.

Yes, a new refund policy for steam, and it's definately an improvement.

You can now ask for a refund for bought games, and/or DLC;

  • within 2 weeks of purchase
  • provided you played the game/dlc less then 2 hours

No questions asked. You don't need to provide a reason, or have to have any troubles with it or anything. Don't like it, return it. Even goes for whole game bundles, as long as you spend less then 2 hours on the combined package, and within 14 days of purchase.

Of course there are exceptions, for example you buy DLC that gives you extra ingame money in a RPG that you're able to spend within those 2 hours, I.O.W. consumable DLC. Gifted copies are also not refundable once accepted by the recieving party.

Still, it's a great improvement. The game doesn't work on your hardware? Clicked the wrong button when selecting the game you wanted to buy? Accidentally bought the DLC instead of the base game? Simply don't like the game you bought? You're able to return it now :)

For full info check out the steam refund page.

Awesome! Gives you basically a 2 hour demo of games that you're not sure you'll enjoy. I love the concept.

Usually at first I install unlegal copy of game, if that good - I buy it :)
2 hours not match to know exactly would you like that game or not... but... some games you can to finish less than two hours :icon_cheesygrin:

This would have been great at the time I bought 7 Days to Die. Reviews on it were great so I got it and was complete rubbish. $24 down the drain. Oh well. Good to hear steam has a refund policy now. Thanks for sharing Shilka.

I do this quite often. In fact, it's showed me multiple times now that pCars is still not really even release quality, still being very buggy and strange, even though they have some great tracks, cars and visuals... the cars themselves being pretty fun.

Thanks for the share Shilka I wouldn't have known this otherwise

Interesting. I wonder if they'll change their review policy so that you have to play more than 2 hours to post a review?

Yep very good point. Honestly though they should implement that anyway... people that don't even play a game for 30 minutes shouldn't be able to review.

FWIW, I just returned Cities: Skyline which I bought in March but only played for 16 minutes. Went through within an hour.

Must say I had a positive experience with this new feature as well. Returned Maffia II, which I think is a great game (as I played it on xbox before), but I didn't like the way the driving on keyboard was at all. Returned it, and got a confirmation within a few hours, and that during steamsale peak times. I also liked that I could pick if I wanted the money back to my steam wallet, or to my bank account, which I used to pay with.

Good feature, and I like the no questions asked. Well, actually, they do ask why, but if you meet requirements it doesn't matter what you answer anyway.
